Don’t worry, it’s completely normal.
At home, your dog trains in a calm space, but at the beach, there’s a whole new world of distractions: smells, sounds, people, and dogs everywhere!
Here’s what to do 👇
🐾 Re-teach commands in this new environment
🎯 Use a long leash (around 5m) for safety and freedom
🍖 Reward every successful recall (treats, toy, praise!)
💬 Practice in stages, from the car park to the sand

🐕 Bundy has been @pawsandclawsportdouglas for 3 years. He is by far the best dog at the shelter…for the right person.
🤸 Are you looking for a dog that has already been introduced to weightpull, the mill, spring pole oh and he can jump!!!!
🐾 He loves training and is both highly food and toy motivated. He needs some leash work, as he is currently walked by many different volunteers and his leash training has lacked consistency.
🐕🦺 He is 3 and half years old, cattle x (who knows) there is some bull terrier in there I’d say. He is great with dogs, kids, people and all places.
😢 I’m reaching out with a heavy heart, we need to find him a home. A GRC home, or just someone who likes to doing cool stuff with their dogs would be the perfect fit for him. 🙏🏻

🐕 It has been a long and drawn out start to year for Koda’s agility training.
☔️First the weather cancelled multiple training sessions and now the range to Cairns closing every night limits what we can attend.
🏃🏼♀️ Koda has been my running partner for the last few months, keeping up our fitness. As well as some practice on my home made equipment, I hope we can make it back to trials before the end of the year!

🐕 Changing mindsets is hard enough for us as humans. Trying to negotiate this with an animal can be stressful and hard work.
🙌🏻 As humans we want more and we want it now. In dog training we have to turn our human desires off. A simple hangout in the park with stranger dogs around is huge for Pumba. You can this from his panting.
👊🏻 It may look to the outside world like not a lot is happening but to me this is the daily grind. Not to say that he is ‘fixed’ this is, and always will be his life. He will be managed accordingly because he makes the wrong choices and unfortunately he enjoys the feeling of conflict.
🥰 Be mindful when out walking your dogs, don’t let them run up to other dogs. Your dog might ‘be friendly’ but the other dog might be working on just being in that space.
🐾 This morning I was pleasantly surprised at how conscious all the dog walkers were at the park. Keep up the good work of advocating for your dog and the dogs of Port Douglas.
