Our facility in Craigieburn is home to our lifesaving animal shelter, where, to-date, we have rescued, rehabilitated, and ethically rehomed over 12,000 animals and assisted countless pet owners to keep their beloved pets during times of hardship via our Community Outreach Programs. Those who have ever formed a loving connection with a companion animal will know the strength of this precious and un

ique relationship and why it should be championed. We are dedicated to providing our community with accessible resources and support, high standards of care, and compassion in order to keep pets and their people together where they belong. Over the past decade, we have embarked on a journey to evaluate the needs of animals (and their owners) in our community, to identify barriers and find innovative ways to deal with the grass root problems that see companion animals being abandoned. We aim to strengthen the human-animal bond and confront animal abandonment at its root causes. Through innovative programs, accessible services, community education and public advocacy, we have become a community resource hub for pet owners and an unwavering champion for animals who need us most. Our focus is to keep community pets with the families that love them by offering preventative pet retention programs, which work to avoid pets from needing assistance in the first place.

🚨 A Very Special Foster Home Needed for a Very Special Boy 🧡

This cutie is Eddie, a beautiful 7-month-old Cavoodle, who has already experienced more than any puppy should in his short life. 💔

Despite everything he's been through, Eddie is a sweet little soul who deserves the chance to learn that people can be kind, and the world isn't such a scary place.

To give Eddie the very best chance, we’re looking for a very specific foster home where he can continue building his confidence and preparing for his loving family.

Eddie's ideal foster home will have:
🐾 A patient, understanding foster carer willing to work closely with our team to help Eddie overcome his fears.
🐾 Someone who is home most of the day or works from home full-time.
🐾 A quiet household where Eddie can feel safe and settle in at his own pace.
🐾 A female-only household, as Eddie is currently very fearful of men.
🐾 Someone comfortable administering daily medication.
🐾 A home with no other pets, so Eddie can focus on his rehabilitation and confidence-building.

Eddie may need a little extra time, patience, and understanding, but we know that with the right foster home, this sweet little pup can blossom into the happy, carefree dog he was always meant to be.

If you think you could open your heart and home to this special little boy, we'd love to hear from you!

“I was employed… but I still had nowhere to turn.”

When most people think of someone needing emergency assistance, they picture someone who is unemployed, homeless, or visibly struggling.

But some of the most vulnerable people are actually the ones quietly slipping through the gaps.
Michelle is one of those people.

After spending 14 years supporting her partner’s career and relocating interstate multiple times, Michelle suddenly found herself alone in Melbourne when the relationship ended. With no family nearby and three beloved pets depending on her, she was starting over from scratch.

A small window of hope appeared when Michelle secured a job that could help rebuild her life. But there was a catch: the role required a month-long induction in Queensland.

And there was no one to care for her two dogs, Moss and Mia, or her cat, Will.

Michelle’s pets had been by her side through every move, heartbreak, and fresh start. She was determined not to lose them now, so she contacted shelters, posted in community groups, and reached out for help.

But because she had found employment, she didn’t qualify for many support services.

Michelle was facing an impossible choice: take the job and risk losing the animals she loved or stay behind and lose the opportunity to rebuild her future.

Thanks to our Safe House for Pets Program, she didn’t have to make that choice.

While Michelle completes her induction and works towards a more stable future, Moss, Mia, and Will are safe in our care, waiting to be reunited with their family.

“If SCAR didn’t take my animals, I would have been forced to leave them at home unattended,” says Michelle. “My pets have been both my friends and my family. They’ve always been there on the good days and the bad.”

Sadly, stories like Michelle’s are becoming increasingly common. People rebuilding their lives after hardship often don't qualify for the help they desperately need.

These are the people your donations help.

Every donation helps us provide safe shelter, food, veterinary care, and emergency support for pets while their people get back on their feet.

This tax time, please give to our Keep Them Together Appeal and help families like Michelle, Moss, Mia, and Will.

Because no one should ever have to choose between the pets they love and the life they’re trying to rebuild.

Together, we can keep them safe.
Together, we can keep them together. 🧡

When little Smidge arrived in our care, he was just 3 weeks old.

Abandoned by his mother, Smidge was tiny, malnourished and vulnerable. 💔 Thankfully, a kind member of the public stepped in and did everything they could to help him survive. But when they noticed Smidge wasn't growing the way a kitten should, they reached out to us for support.

Since then, little Smidge has been surrounded by people determined to give him every chance possible.

Our veterinary team and Smidge’s dedicated foster carer have been carefully monitoring his progress, providing specialised care, and helping him navigate the challenges he's faced from such a young age.

Now almost 4 months old, Smidge is still much smaller than he should be. Without his mum to guide him through those important early weeks, Smidge has had to learn basic things like how to eat on his own.

But despite everything he's faced, Smidge is a little fighter!

Every day, our team works to rule out underlying medical concerns, support his development, and help him gain weight. And every tiny milestone, every gram gained, and every happy little purr is a celebration for Smidge’s foster carers. 🧡

We will continue to do everything we can to help this special little boy grow, thrive, and experience the love and care every kitten should know. ✨

ℹ️ A special thank you to our long-term supporters, Chandler Cat Litter for helping keep our litter trays stocked with the highest quality litter. Their ongoing support allows us to direct more resources toward animals like Smidge, giving vulnerable kittens the care they need so they can find the second chances they deserve!

Meet Gracie! 🧡

Are you looking for an enthusiastic personal assistant who’s loyal, smart… and occasionally a little chaotic? Then Gracie is more than ready to apply for the role!

🍝 Cooking dinner? She's supervising.
🌱 Gardening? She's helping with the landscaping.
🧺 Folding laundry? She's in charge of quality control.

At 9-months-old, this sweet German Shepherd x Sharpei’s favourite place is right beside her people, and she’s convinced that whatever you’re up to is a team activity she can be a part of!

Gracie is super smart and eager to learn. 🧠 She already knows an impressive range of tricks and with a few tasty treats, she'll happily show off everything she knows! She loves her toys, enjoys a good chew, and is always keen for a game.

The world can sometimes feel a little overwhelming for Gracie, so she's looking for a patient adult-only home, or one with older dog-savvy children. 🧡 A family to help build her confidence with gentle guidance and positive experiences.

Gracie could happily live with another friendly doggo but would be just as happy soaking up all the love and cuddles as your one and only. 🐶

Help this gorgeous girl find the loving home she deserves! Check out her adoption profile below and bring Gracie home today! 🧡

"When I lost my house, my biggest fear wasn't where I was going to sleep, it was what would happen to my cat. Because of SCAR, I didn't have to choose between my safety and my pet." - Leo's mum 🧡

For most people, their pet is more than just an animal. They're family. A source of comfort, stability, and unconditional love during the darkest moments of their lives.

So, when crisis strikes and the world gets turned upside down, often the thing they’re most afraid of is losing their pet. And that is exactly why our Safe House for Pets Program exists.

We provide temporary emergency care for pets while their owners escape violence, access crisis accommodation, enter hospital, or take the critical steps needed to rebuild their lives.

Because knowing their best friend is safe, loved, and waiting for them gives people the strength to move forward when they need it most.

This tax time, every donation to our Keep Them Together Appeal helps protect that bond. It helps families facing unimaginable circumstances keep the one source of love and comfort they can't bear to lose.

People like Leo’s mum. Like Brett, Mia, Kara, and so many others who found hope because they didn't have to choose between their safety and their pet.

Please donate to our Keep Them Together Appeal and help ensure no one has to face crisis alone.

Together, we can keep them safe.
Together, we can keep them together. 🧡🐾

Today is Best Friends Day, so what better way to celebrate than trying to a loving home for Artie and Blue! 🐱🐱

These two gorgeous 8-year-old cats have spent their lives together snuggled side by side. 🧡 Unfortunately, their owner’s living circumstances have recently changed, and Artie and Blue are looking for new home through our Owner Assisted Rehoming Program.

✨ Can you help us keep these besties together?

Artie is the gentle, sensitive soul of the pair. Once she feels safe, she's incredibly affectionate, loves following her people around, and absolutely melts for a gentle brush! 🥰 Blue is the confident little charmer who helps bring out Arties confidence. She’s playful, affectionate, curious, and always keen to be involved in whatever’s happening around her.

These bonded indoor girls are used to being part of everyday family life, sleep in the bedroom with their owner each night, and enjoy supervised time in a secure courtyard. They're also great with dogs and children!

So, if you're looking for a pair of loving companions who’ll fill your home with love, warmth and plenty of personality, check out Artie and Blue’s adoption profile below and bring them home today!

HAPPY HOME TAIL: Apple’s toasty new home! 🧡

This cheeky little kitten arrived in our care earlier in the year at just 5 weeks old. And even then, she had one mission. To locate the warmest, cosiest place to nap she could find!

Super affectionate, Apple LOVED being cuddled in your arms and being carried around like a baby. But her favourite place to be was curled up in the soft, warm fur of her foster sibling! Because there’s nothing better than a warm hug with a friend. 🥰

In April, Apple was adopted by Mehar and their family and it’s so lovely to see her settled into her new home. Especially since it seems her love for all things warm hasn't changed one bit!

Whether she’s tucked inside a coat, sporting a snazzy little jumper or snuggled up beside her new doggy sibling, Apple has found the greatest comfort of all… a warm home full of toasty hugs and a loving family to call her own! 🧡

Mehar says, “Apple is so lovable towards everyone around her and is doing so well!” And we couldn’t be happier for this cuddly little cutie!
