Our facility in Craigieburn is home to our lifesaving animal shelter, where, to-date, we have rescued, rehabilitated, and ethically rehomed over 12,000 animals and assisted countless pet owners to keep their beloved pets during times of hardship via our Community Outreach Programs. Over the past decade, we have embarked on a journey to evaluate the needs of animals (and their owners) in our community, to identify barriers and find innovative ways to deal with the grass root problems that see companion animals being abandoned. We aim to strengthen the human-animal bond and confront animal abandonment at its root causes. Through innovative programs, accessible services, community education and public advocacy, we have become a community resource hub for pet owners and an unwavering champion for animals who need us most. Our focus is to keep community pets with the families that love them by offering preventative pet retention programs, which work to avoid pets from needing assistance in the first place.

Remember Nelson? 🧡 We have the update we've all been hoping for...

Just a few weeks ago, we shared Nelson's story.

After spending eight long months waiting for a family, we asked if someone out there could give this gentle boy the chance he deserved.

Natalie saw our post, read about everything Nelson had overcome, and knew she had to meet him. Before long, Nelson was heading home to start the next chapter of his life.

Just one week later, Natalie sent us this beautiful update:

"Just wanted to let you know Nelson is doing really well. Since coming home, he's had lots of dry food, some Fancy Feast and some Churu. He was in the spare room wardrobe yesterday on his blanket, moved in between my lounge chair and side table this morning and is now happily lying on my lounge chair. I was patting him before and he was purring, which made my heart so happy.

Thank you again for saving him. He's a sweet little man and I'm glad I found him."

Reading these words filled our hearts. 🧡

From a frightened cat who once struggled to trust anyone, to a boy who is now discovering comfy chairs, gentle pats, tasty treats and the safety of a loving home... this is exactly why we do what we do.

Thank you, Natalie, for opening your heart to Nelson and giving him the second chance he waited so patiently for.

💙 JaWoodle Raises over $60,000 for SCAR! 💙

He’s done it AGAIN! 🥹🐾

Melbourne-based gaming legend, YouTuber and longtime SCAR Ambassador Josh (aka JaWoodle) has once again celebrated his birthday by giving back to SCAR... and this year, he’s completely blown us away!

For his annual 12-Hour Birthday Bonanza Charity Stream, Josh rallied his incredible online community to support vulnerable animals and the people who love them.

And together, they raised an absolutely INCREDIBLE $60,000 + for SCAR! 💙

Josh’s generosity is already making a difference. This funding has already started helping us keep people and their pets together through our Safe House for Pets Program, providing emergency accommodation and support for pets belonging to people experiencing family violence.

That means dogs and cats can stay safe while their people access the support they need, and families don’t have to make the heartbreaking choice between their own safety and the safety of their beloved pets.

Abu arrived at SCAR as the only boy in a litter of seven kittens!

He was lucky enough to be adopted by an amazing human who even taught him how to walk on lead (and dress as the dapper gentleman he was destined to be 🕴🏻).

It brings our staff and volunteers the greatest sense of joy to see how our animals are doing settled into their new families. 🐈‍⬛🤍

Meet Artie 💙 This gorgeous felines is one of the many pets at SCAR who benefit from the support of our amazing partners at 4CYTE .

As our animals age or recover from surgery and injury, some may experience stiffness, reduced mobility, or need a little extra support to keep them comfortable and moving well.

Thanks to 4CYTE, SCAR is able to provide mobility support supplements for our older pets and those recovering from procedures, helping them stay active, comfortable and enjoy the best quality of life possible while in our care.

Ralphie was adopted from SCAR in October 2025 to his amazing new family, where he spends his time adventuring outdoors, cuddling up with his humans and exploring the world with his furry friends.

Ralphie is now 10 years old and we think it’s safe to say he’s enjoying retirement, experiencing all the love, care and safety that he so deserves!

Here at SCAR we are huge advocates for our senior citizens and showing that even older dogs can bring a bundle of joy and energy into your life, as Ralphie has proven so readily.
