On Wednesday, a beautiful senior Golden Retriever, Ms H, peacefully crossed the rainbow bridge on the verandah of her home. She was surrounded by her devoted family, with her four-legged brother close by. She had been suffering from worsening seizures. Deeply loved throughout her life, her humans gave her the gift of leaving this world in comfort, calm, and love. May these littlr fur-ever hearts help them heal. 🌈💛❤️‍🩹

A fresh new look for the reception area!
Some of you might remember the blue oval chairs — they looked great but were a bit too low and tricky for some clients. I’ve since rehomed them and replaced them with these simple, comfortable, and easy-to-use chairs. 🤗🐾

Dogtor Buddy’s CBD Oil Update 🐾🩺😁

We’ve just completed the first few days of Buddy’s CBD oil trial! For the initial 3 days, we started with a once-daily low dose to ease him into it. There may have been a slight improvement in his arthritis discomfort, though nothing dramatic just yet.

That said — he was definitely a bit more relaxed and sleepy, which might be the early effects kicking in! 😴
I don't want him too sleepy though. This side effect is common and apparently ceases after week or so. Time will tell.

As of yesterday, we’ve moved to twice-daily dosing, and I’m hopeful we’ll start to see clearer benefits soon. I’ll keep you all posted as we go along.

In the meantime… here’s Dr. Buddy himself, ready to take your questions — glasses and all! 👓🐶❤️

🐾 Does your dog panic at the vet? Growl during nail trims? Freeze when handled? You’re not alone.
On Monday I did a house call for Mr A - a sweet adopted Border Collie. Mr A and his owner have bonded very well and Mr A leads an awesome life but he has strict boundaries the owner can't cross either. He also finds vet visits incredibly stressful and they are becoming more dramatic. Mr A shows aggression and needed to be taken out the back to be restrained at the last vet visit.
The owner hoped that a house visit would be less traumatic. When I arrived Mr A was barking at me and showing some guarding behaviour. But he was keen on the treats I had in my pockets. He wanted to interact with me, but only on his terms and with very strong fear triggers. We had to muzzle him and hold him tight to give him his injection and cut some very overgrown dewclaws. He felt very scared during those few seconds and vocalised. Not ideal but afterwards he was rolling on his back next to me, pawed at my legs for more treats and then rested calmly while I chatted to his dad. He wants to trust but is so easily triggered. It made me think about what the real solution for Mr A is and that I am only a small part of the journey Mr A needs to go on.

Helping dogs like this starts with us — their humans. 💛
Fearful dogs don’t need to be forced — they need calm, confident LEADERSHIP. Avoiding the problem often makes it worse. With the right training and support many dogs can learn to feel safe and hence stop their defensive aggressive behaviour.

I talked to the owner about these steps:

✅ Desensitisation + rewards
✅ Cooperative care (handling with consent)
✅ Positive muzzle training!!!
✅ Clear, kind boundaries
✅ Support from fear-free professionals - most of us can't do this alone

With patience and practice, you can be the leader your dog needs. 🐶💪
I am here to help as sometimes we need to take the anxiety down a notch with medication so the training can actually form new habits. Plus our sniff -us- out sessions really help.

It’s always such a joy to meet a family’s newest little addition. 💕 Even more special when I first met them while helping say goodbye to their much-loved senior dog. A beautiful full circle moment 🤗 How adorable is little Mr A?! xx

This afternoon I’m feeling a little sad. I’ve just returned from an in-home euthanasia for one of my regular seniors, Mr M.

For the past year we managed his heart disease and arthritis together, and over that time I grew to know him and his devoted family well. These cases always touch me too. He used to come running in looking for treats.

Mr M had already been through three homes before he finally found his forever family. Sadly, he’d also known some unkindness in his earlier years. But once he was with his 4th (and last) owners, he was truly cherished, loved, and given the best of care.
It was an honour to help him cross over peacefully. He passed gently on his dad’s lap with his mum by his side — a dignified and loving farewell for a sweet little man who will be dearly missed — by his family, and by me too. 💙🐾

🐾 Buddy’s New CBD Adventure!
Buddy will start on CBD oil today. The delivery just arrived, and the whole process was super easy and fast!

Script lodged online.
Payment options via SMS/email.
A few days later, it arrived express to our door.

The packaging is lovely, and I especially like the Pet Record Diary and free poo bag holder — such a thoughtful touch!

Cost for Buddy at 30 kg is about $1.50/day, which could be lower if I get a bigger bottle and higher concentration next time.
Why we’re trying it:
Buddy had major orthopedic surgery as a puppy after serious front leg injuries. Now, at 8, he’s showing more signs of arthritis. I’ve seen great feedback from clients using CBD oil, so I wanted to try it for him — it might even help his dog reactivity a bit.
I’ll keep you posted on how he goes! 💛

Buddy was extra excited today when he realised I didn’t have any afternoon house calls – it meant an early walk! 🌿🐾
I brought the camera hoping for some bird shots, but instead ended up with a little Buddy photoshoot. Honestly, he can even make weeds look good 😂 Shall we just call them bluebells? 💙 And how good is his casual 'over the shoulder look' pose?
We wish you and your fur-kids a fabulous weekend x

I know I’ve said this before, but I have to say it again: I don’t want any more older cats suffering in silence. It honestly breaks my heart.

A lovely, devoted client told me today after we trialled pain relief for a week:
"It made a huge difference… but now I feel so guilty."

I see older cats come in for things like meowing more, overgrooming, constipation or peeing in odd places— symptoms that seem unrelated to their joints. It’s easy to assume it’s “just” old age, dementia, or behaviour.

But often, it’s arthritis pain.
And cats are experts at hiding pain — no limping, no crying, just subtle signs:

🐾 Less active
🐾 Overgrooming
🐾 Trouble toileting
🐾 Withdrawn or more vocal

The good news? In my consult rooms cats relax and we have more time with 30 min consult slots. I usually get a good feel of their joints and it’s clear when something hurts. Once we treat the pain, cats often transform — relaxed, mobile, even playful again. It is wonderful to see and hear about.

If your cat seems “not quite right,” please don’t assume it’s just age and that nothing can be done.
It could be pain — and I can help. 💛

💜 When I come for an in-home farewell, I bring only a small basket of the essentials — and a few gentle touches, like a heart keepsake and a card from Lily’s Legacy.
I don’t arrive in scrubs or look too “vet-like” — instead, I dress simply, like just a friendly visitor. This helps keep the atmosphere calm, relaxed, and focused on your pet.
My hope is that everyone — especially your beloved pet (and often their furry housemates too) — feels safe, loved, and at peace. Together we create a gentle space to say goodbye with warmth and dignity. 🐾✨
