I know I’ve said this before, but I have to say it again: I don’t want any more older cats suffering in silence. It honestly breaks my heart.
A lovely, devoted client told me today after we trialled pain relief for a week:
"It made a huge difference… but now I feel so guilty."
I see older cats come in for things like meowing more, overgrooming, constipation or peeing in odd places— symptoms that seem unrelated to their joints. It’s easy to assume it’s “just” old age, dementia, or behaviour.
But often, it’s arthritis pain.
And cats are experts at hiding pain — no limping, no crying, just subtle signs:
🐾 Less active
🐾 Overgrooming
🐾 Trouble toileting
🐾 Withdrawn or more vocal
The good news? In my consult rooms cats relax and we have more time with 30 min consult slots. I usually get a good feel of their joints and it’s clear when something hurts. Once we treat the pain, cats often transform — relaxed, mobile, even playful again. It is wonderful to see and hear about.
If your cat seems “not quite right,” please don’t assume it’s just age and that nothing can be done.
It could be pain — and I can help. 💛
