I’ll be honest, after how full on last year was for me with opening a store, I overcommitted myself to a lot of things. Towards the end of it, I was completely burnt out and stopped wanting to do the things I loved. Since moving to Canberra, I promised myself that I would slow down and allow myself to breathe a little.
Today is the first time since November last year that I’ve worked on wet specimens. I’ve started slowly, with only doing this little fox kit. He’s the absolute sweetest boy; I wish that foxes weren’t such a big issue in Australia. Three kits came into my care last year - one of them made it to the Brisbane Oddities & Curiosities Expo (last pic), where he found his forever home. This boy will be searching for his new home at the next lot of & Curiosities Expos in November & December. I may also have the third available in time.
Getting back to the things I love, slowly and gently, means the world 🖤
It is hard to work on larger specimens because finding nice jars that are big enough for them is tricky. If anyone has any leads on where to find them, I’d love to hear. The Kmart jars are too small, and wet specimens cannot go into jars with cork lids.
