Today is World African Wild Dog Day. Let's be honest about where things stand.

Fewer than 6,600 African wild dogs remain in the wild, making them Africa's most endangered large carnivore. Their decline is driven by habitat fragmentation, disease, snaring, and road deaths.

They need space. Connected space. And conservation teams that can monitor them across vast, roadless terrain.

The Bateleurs provide that view from above.

In Northern Uganda, ordinary street dogs - often rejected and neglected - are helping war trauma survivors to heal through the incredible healing power of the human-dog bond. The Comfort Dog Project is now in its 11th year and over 138 dogs and survivors are now leading better lives - and driving change in their communities!
Our dog hospital - the only veterinary hospital in the entire northern region - helps dogs in need every day. Our field teams serve dogs in the villages every Saturday.
At The BIG FIX Uganda, we think dogs are worthy of celebrating every day.

Dolly Parton’s life was full of philanthropy, especially when it came to animal conservation and rescue efforts. Dolly loved animals; her impact and legacy will remain through these programs she so loved.

The Eagle Mountain Sanctuary at Dollywood was a project with the American Eagle Foundation to oversee and educate people on bald eagle conservation. This project has helped the many efforts to recover bald eagle populations and get them removed from the endangered species list.

The Doggy Parton clothing and accessory brand donates portions of its funds to Willa B. Farms, a non-profit rescue from Old Hickory, Tennessee.

She also wrote several children’s books about her god-dog, Billy The Kid.

Dolly Parton will be deeply missed by her community, and all other communities she touched with her outreach efforts to help both people and animals alike.
Rest in peace, Dolly. 🕊️❤️

🐾 Meet beautiful Tutz! ❤️

Lovely old Tutz has elbow dysplasia, so today we started with some gentle Accell Therapy mat work before heading into the underwater treadmill.

The Accell mat is a beautiful way to prepare the body for exercise, helping to increase circulation and lymphatic drainage, relax tight muscles and encourage joint mobility.

Then into the water! 💦 The underwater treadmill allows us to gently work on Tutz’s range of motion and weight-bearing, while strengthening the muscles supporting her elbows and forelimbs — particularly her triceps, biceps and forearm muscles. We’re also keeping her core and hindquarters strong, which is so important for overall stability and mobility.

Unlike swimming, the underwater treadmill gives us controlled, targeted exercise, allowing us to work specifically on Tutz’s gait, range of motion and supporting muscles without unnecessarily overloading those elbow joints.

A lovely gentle session for a lovely old girl. ❤️

🐾 Meet beautiful Luna! 💕

Today I had the pleasure of meeting Luna and her beautiful mum, Maddie, for Luna’s very first underwater treadmill session. 🥰

We took everything really slowly today, allowing Luna to go at her own pace and gently navigate some new and potentially scary experiences. Luna didn’t have the most supportive start as a puppy, but thankfully she now has the most wonderful mum in Maddie, who is patiently guiding her and helping her build confidence every step of the way. ❤️

And her confidence grew so beautifully throughout her first session — we were all so proud of her! 🌸

With Luna’s left hip dysplasia and stifle complications, the underwater treadmill will be a lovely way to help strengthen her glutes, quads and gastrocnemius muscles, helping to support and stabilise those joints. 💪🐶

It was so lovely meeting you, Luna and your family. I’m really looking forward to supporting you and being part of Luna’s journey. 🐾💕
