The check in.

Underrated, but highly effective in teaching your dog that choosing you in a high stimulation environment is the correct decision.

In this session with Koda, I'm working towards the following goals:
Voluntary calm position(sit, down or even a stand)
No leash pressure
Focussed check in

We were working in the front yard/driveway area of the clients home, where there were people walking by, other dogs, birds and plenty of shadows(his favorite free entertainment)

My main expectation was for Koda to remain by my side and choose to make eye contact and eventually maintain it, irrespective of the external stimulus.

It's still very early days, but he showed lovely progress.

A reliable "Leave It" command is about so much more than obedience—it's about safety.

Whether it's a dead bird, discarded food, medication, wildlife, or something potentially dangerous on a walk, a solid "Leave It" can prevent your dog from getting into trouble before it starts.
In this video, a single cue was all it took for this dog to make the right choice and move on.

Training isn't just about teaching dogs what to do—it's also about teaching them when not to engage with something.
