Hoedspruit AnimaL Outreach Hoedspruit AnimaL Outreach uplifts the lives of dogs in the rural communities around Hoedspruit

Hoedspruit, South Africa’s wildlife haven, is surrounded by impoverished, rural communities, that have no access to government veterinary facilities for domestic animals. Since 2016, HALO (Hoedspruit AnimaL Outreach) has worked together with the local community leaders to improve the mental and physical health of domestic animals. Seven communities, The Willows, LeBoeng, Moraba, The Oaks, Tswenyan

😫HALO is in quite a pickle… 😫

Our HALO car, used daily to transport sick dogs and dogs for sterilisation and other treatments urgently needed repairs. And despite a generous discount it didn’t come out cheap….. we are due R24,000!!

A new alternator, clutch kit set, bushes and repairs to leaking oil and the suspension…. Jikes!😳

Any and all help to pay for our car bill is much appreciated: it’s on the road tomorrow all day for sterilisation of 10 days, Friday for treatment of 4 dogs with TVT and Saturday for our outreach to well over 170 dogs, we can’t do a day without the car.

Godfred is looking a little better but is not out of the woods yet…

After a blood transfusion and two days of heavy meds he is now ready to recover further in our camp. Let’s hope he soon feels a lot better ☘️

🐕Meet Egnetia Nyathi and Karabo Moeng🐕

HALO has exciting news to share! From 1 August, thanks to SAVA Community Veterinary Clinics and Battersea UK, these two young ladies from HALO will be on the road 6 (!) days a week vaccinating dogs against rabies. Never before has a rabies vaccination campaign of this magnitude been launched in our area in an effort to eliminate rabies and keep our dogs, people and wildlife safe!

Egnetia from Acornhoek is currently finishing her qualifications for Animal Welfare Assistant. She is our queen of admin and Sepedi translator, explaining the importance of rabies vaccinations to the community members.

Karabo from Sigagule is an Animal Health Technician and will be vaccinating all dogs.

These ambitious local girls with a passion for dogs are on a mission, starting in the Willows and Sigagule. Let’s give them a ❤️

Poor Godfred is really, really sick. He is terribly anemic, struggling to breathe and completely lacks energy. HALO rushed him to Debbie of Provet Animal Hospital where he immediately received a blood transfusion. Let’s hope he will make it through….

On our sterilisation run this week, someone brought in Spotty to be euthanised; a completely healthy absolute sweetheart of a dog, not even a year old. The reason? She is too sweet…

She came in terrified hiding behind her owner, very unsure of what was to come. HALO was able to take her on the spot and bring her to our camp. And two days later she has opened up to us and wagging her tail, asking for cuddles from our lovely volunteer Milla Stone.

At our camp Spotty will undoubtedly blossom into a happy doggie and we hope someone can open their heart to give this beautiful big girl the loving home she deserves where she can be what she is: a wonderful sweet dog ❤️
