Abby and her sister, both 4 weeks old at the time, were dumped at the Tvet college in Harrismith. For more than 3 years they have only known Shelter life until Lizelle popped into the Shelter where Abby stole her heart. Thank you Lizelle for giving precious Abby a home that she is so deserving of and showering her with love and care. We wish you both much happiness 🤗🥰

This Winter has started rather early with temperatures dipping very low. We have to keep our Harrismith Animal Shelter cats and dogs comfortable during these very cold nights. At the moment the electricity keeps tripping due to problems with wiring and cables etc that has to be replaced. Work is starting soon but very costly for the Shelter. We are in desperate need with help for electricity to keep our furry kids warm. Your help will be much appreciated Thanking you in advance..Bank acc. Harrismith Animal Shelter. Harrismith Animal Shelter doggies will all have warm bodies this Winter thanks to Busamed Hospital who donated wool for Eliza Liddell old age home ladies to knit these lovely warm jackets. We are most grateful to Jana and her ladies who gets the knitting going also Constance and Pearl from Busamed for opening your hearts to the doggies needs, it is very much appreciated 🤗🐕‍🦺

Ons Harrismith Diere shelter is so VOL. Vanoggend was daar twee honde weer afgelaai, "ons vlieg Woensdag Amerika toe, ons het by julle aangeneem en nou bring ons hulle net terug".
My vraag, hoe lank weet julle nie al dat julle aansoek gedoen het nie en hoekom is die shelter nie toe verwittig van julle beplanning om te immigreer nie. Dan kon die shelter dalk help om huise te kry. Die shelter word nou in ʼn posisie geplaas waar ons niemand se diere kan gaan help wat in die strate is nie, want ons het geen kampe of kennels oor om hulle te akkommodeer nie. 😞

Good morning people, our Harrismith Animal Shelter is FULL.
This morning two dogs previous adopted from the shelter was being returned, "we're moving to America and flying out on Wednesday, so we're returning them."
My question is, when you applied, could you not have informed the Shelter in order for them to try and rehome them.
The shelter is now placed in a position whereby we won't be able to help people's animals that are in the street as we have no more camps and kennels left to accommodate them. 😞

Adoption: a Wonderful life filled with more Daxies and a family who adore the breed is awaiting Chippie and Chappie. Susan Garella's two grandsons Luca and Lorenzo could not contain their excitement for the little ones. Thank you Susan for giving the babies a home that we all hoped for, enjoy your little ones.

Harrismith Animal Shelter's beautiful Blue eye girl , Nova is wanting a home of her own . She enjoys interacting with other dogs , adults and kids. One cannot wish for a better doggie as a companion. Our aim is to improve facilities for the animals in our care.🐶🐱

The Animal Shelter will be hosting a golf day on the 29th of May 2026 raising funds to renovate kennels, increase camps and hopefully install solar to reduce electricity costs.
