Last Sunday, we had our very first kitten event, kitten yoga with Downward Dog for Dogs! 🧘☀️

We had a blast! Our kittens thoroughly enjoyed socialising in a safe, calm environment and meeting new people. DDFD raised a remarkable R8,500 for us! This comes at a much-needed time, as we have had so many veterinary visits with our kittens lately.

We are incredibly thankful to DDFD and their sponsors and partners for making the event possible: Lush, Sjoe, and Stronger Together. Many people have asked, and yes, we are planning another event in August! Stay tuned to the DDFD account for announcements. 🐾💕

Bonded Kittens! What does it really mean?

Most kittens enjoy each other’s company, and many adapt beautifully when adopted separately into loving homes. A small number, however, develop a dependent bond where separation can cause genuine stress, and in those cases, we always prioritise keeping them together.

Every kitten is assessed individually so we can make the best decision for their welfare. 🐾

Adopt Wanda🌻

Wanda was rescued with her two siblings, Levi and Charlie - found alone in Grassy Park.

Her name should be spelled Wonder, given her adventurous spirit. This tiny tot is a true socialite who loves exploring, meeting new people, and discovering new things. She loves food almost as much as she loves life! Wanda would suit just about any family. If you're looking for the ideal feline companion, look no further than Wanda! 🐾

Our second De Gatjie outreach took place on Saturday! 🐾🐱 🐶

Dogs and cats were vaccinated, dewormed, treated for fleas, and each family received a big bag of food. We noticed that we haven’t seen any new puppies or kittens this month, and we'd like to think that's a reflection of how well-sterilised the animals in the area are becoming!

Rest well now, sweet Hydra. 🌼🌈

Hydra lost her battle to what we suspect to have been FIP (Feline Infectious Peritonitis).

Her foster mum, Christin, of almost half a year, messaged us in a panic, saying that Hydra was not herself. She was weak and not eating.It wasn’t even 48 hours before her condition declined rapidly. With our vet’s guidance, we had to relieve her suffering.

We can only thank Christin for the dedication she has given this sweet baby girl since she was a tiny kitten. Her sister, Chimera, has also been shaken by her sudden departure but is slowly showing her old self again.

We are heartbroken that Hydra only lived to 6 months, but we are grateful we had the honour of knowing her.🌷

A difficult loss.❤️‍🩹

While all losses are equally devastating to us, Tommy’s came as a shock.

Tommy and Teddy lost their mom, who was said to have been hit by a car in Grassy Park. When we got them, we noticed that Tommy had a dent in his chest, and the vet soon confirmed that it was a congenital defect called pectus excavatum.

Tommy underwent surgery to correct the defect, as it is best treated as early as possible in life. The surgery went well, and we were so happy to have Tommy back with Teddy. But two days later, Tommy stopped wanting to feed and began breathing faster than normal. We rushed him back to the vet, and just as the vet went to assess him, he passed away. Just like that, Tommy was gone.

We never expected it to end this way. Tommy was a happy little baby with a long life ahead of him and a home already waiting for him. But life had different plans, and we now have to make peace with that reality. Teddy will carry his spirit with him forever. 🌈

Adopt Polo🖤

Polo was found alone in the bonnet of a car - warming herself by the engine - hence her name, Polo. 🚙

She had a severe worm burden and has had nonstop diarrhoea since we got her. She has truly had a difficult start to life and is now on the road to recovery, despite the painful challenges caused by the inflammation to her colon and a**s from the parasite burden.

Polo will soon be ready for her forever home once she has fully recovered. She is an extremely cuddly baby with so much love to give! 🐈‍⬛🩷

Adopt Meadow 🌼

Meadow was found wandering in Meadowridge after the Cape storm. She was kept at Penvet while her owners were searched for over 10 days, but they were never found.

She has since been spayed at Penvet, dewormed & deflead, vaccinated, and is now happily settled in foster care.

Meadow is a very sweet, gentle, and loving older kitty who would love nothing more than a lap to sit on and purr away for eternity.
