Steri day today and mainly cats due to the cold front that is currently hitting us and we didnt want the dogs to sleep outside after their ops in the cold weather - cats at least are kept indoors. The dogs that did come in for steri ,the owners are keeping in tonight out the cold. 31 animals sterilised - 22 cats and 9 dogs including some large pitbulls. Thank you to our fantastc donor and to Vetsol and Cape of Good Hope SPCA for all the help today. Thirty one lives changed and a lot less kittens and puppies that would have been born into cruelty. Thank you to every one that supports sterilisation.

The wonderful Mr Funny Bones who recently donated blankets and food for our street dogs - he waited 9 years for his perfect family

Funny Bones spent years waiting for the right person to see past the things that made him “different.”

At DARG, an animal rescue in Cape Town, South Africa, he had become something of a local celebrity. His unusual smile, quirky personality, and goofy senior-dog energy made people fall in love with him online. But finding him the right home was never simple.

Funny Bones had been through a lot before he became the dog everyone knew at the shelter. According to DARG Managing Director Faustina Gardner, he was stabbed when he was young, and that is how he first ended up in their care. Growing up in a shelter was hard on him. The kennel environment made him anxious and frustrated, and over time he developed coping habits like digging and obsessing over sticks, balls, and toys.

He was lovable, cuddly, playful, and full of personality, but he also needed a very specific home.

He had arthritis, so he needed a single-story house. He had a strong prey drive, so he could not live with cats. He was anxiety-prone, so DARG knew his adoption would have to be slow and carefully handled. Over the years, families would fall in love with him, but again and again, they had cats at home, and the match could not work.

So Funny Bones waited.

Year after year.

In January 2024, DARG shared his adoption plea again, and this time his story spread far beyond Cape Town. People from around the world, even families in Canada and Australia, showed interest. But behaviorists advised that he should stay local to avoid adding too much stress to his transition.

Then the right family came along.

They had recently lost their 15-year-old dog and wanted to give a senior shelter dog a chance. They were not scared off by Funny Bones’ digging, his anxiety, or his need for patience. They visited, did sleepovers, and slowly helped him understand that this was not just another temporary stop.

After about two months, everyone knew.

Funny Bones was home.

Now he sleeps near his new mom, wakes her with his famous smile, follows his people around, and is finally learning what it means to be loved outside shelter walls.

His story is a reminder that some dogs do not need a perfect past to deserve a future.

They just need one family willing to say, “We see you. We understand you. And we are not giving up.”

We finally found the mom dog that we have been tracking for the last 2 weeks - every time we see her she has bolted and slipped between the house. Friday we found her owner and all her pups so she is booked in for steri on Tuesday along with 2 other adult dogs on the property.

This little pup was all on her own running in the street - her owner arrived some 10 minutes later after a child ran to tell him we had the pup. We will keep an eye on her and if she is out alone again he has been told she will be removed. She is already too thin for a dog of her age. This culure of pets being disposable has to end.

Fluffy now Dexter is off to his new home shortly - he is the schnauzer x boy in his walking pack. He must be the sweetest gentlest dog that we have rehomed and was snapped up before being advertised. He is off to a home on the beach - Thank you for all you have done for him.

Shadow getting a lot of love in his new home - he is already settled and being spoilt.

Little Bear has really turned into the cutest pup, totally adored by his new mom and dad.Thank you Adri for taking such great care of him.

Thank you to every one who shares the posts of dogs and cats needing rehoming.

Rolo was so excited to see his kennel being unloaded - he has been sharing with a larger dog and ends up being evicted. Tosca with the 6 small pups received her kennel, she is in for steri soon. Brownie received hers after her steri and Rommel and Chappie share a kennel - both have been sleeping outside. Thank you Ursula for helping all the dogs today.

The shepherd boy had a lot of people involved in finding him a place - Today he left for a farm in Standford, kindly taken through by Stanford animal welfare. He is just bones under that fur, it is incredibly sad to think how hungry he must have been and for so long.
He really has stepped into a beautiful life with thanks to Helen and Anthea and Adele who all networked him. I hope it makes up for what he has been through - He came from Standford so by chance he is going back to his birth area. He was given to a person in the infomal area when the family moved.
To the person that gave him away I can only ask that the universe returns all you inflicted on this beautiful boy.

We fed out 80kg of dog food today and 5 kg of cat food - it is really hectic in the very informal area, the dogs are jumping to grab food before we can put it down. There was not time to take photos between the people coming with sick animals and all the ones we needed to feed. Some people have left the area so we have added to the homeless street dogs and more to feed. Potatoe peels were everywhere today, I am not sure how dogs are supposed to eat these but they get to a stage of hunger where anything goes. Thank you to every one who donates towards food.
