Imagine spending your entire life either chained or confined to a sandpit with not a blade of grass in site and completely on your own except for 5 minutes a day when a member of your ‘’family’’ throws a bowl of ‘food’ at you. That’s Chucky’s life! Past his cute puppy stage, he is now basically abandoned in a small sandy yard, chained for most of the day – that’s the life he faces.
Chucky is a friendly, big lump of a boy – ST Bernard X, approx. 2 years old, who has been sterilized and like all other dogs, deserves a loving family, decent living conditions and a garden to play in. We want to remove him and find him a proper home but can only try to get his “family’’ to surrender him if we have a place for him to go to. We were absolutely blessed yesterday with this amazing donation of dog food tins yesterday. Thank you so much, Giving is Living- Cape Town and Adele for your kindness to our Pure Pooches. Jake was actually a bit overwhelmed at this awesome donation. We could almost see the wheels turning in his doggie noggin trying to work out how many happy 😊 meals this would be.

November was a busy month. In addition to our normal kennel deliveries we have been distributing gates and fences in the new RDP housing site in Macassar. New dogs, new owners – houses built with no fencing around them and dogs are chained to posts in the hot sun. Sometimes just supplying a gate and a piece of fencing gives these dog a different life. From being chained (sometimes on a rope no longer than a metre), where water bowls and shade don’t exist, to being able to run fee albeit in a small yard.

Our next area of freeing dogs is Abbotsdale. During December we will be sponsoring a spay day for 45 animals, as well as supplying kennels, food parcels, gates, fencing and runners for the numerous dogs chained in this area. A large number of the Abbotsdale owners are willing to sterilize and unchain their animals but as there is very little help in that area, we will be stepping in. Kennels are a crucial part of preventing heatstroke – temperatures and reach 40 degrees there – by proving shade as well as a place of safety. Our kennels are made of recycled materials and are designed with a sloping, corrugated roof to allow heat to escape.

Contributions to our last project of the year will be gratefully received.

A successful and fun quiz even was held on the 6th November in conjunction with Animal Lifeline to raise funds for a sterilisation day in Redlinghuys. A big thank you to our prize donors:

Your generosity and the participants of the Quiz evening, have enabled us to prevent numerous potential litters by sterilizing 51 animals, thereby avoiding future suffering of countless unwanted puppies/kittens that end up as strays, or sick and dying. Our last project of 2025 will be another sterilisation day near Malmesbury, in a rural settlement where vet help is not available to those who need it the most. Abbotsdale have reached out to us for help and we are hoping to do at least 45 animals mid December.
Please support our efforts – sterilisation is the only way to alleviate ongoing suffering and abuse by reducing the numbers that need help!
