We’d like to thank our friends at the Williams Foundation for once again sponsoring and supporting our annual Fur Ball! While dropping off their donation at our shelter, they spent time meeting many of the adoptable animals in our care (Buzz, Jessica, and Ruckus decided to join us for this photo op). Looking to adopt a four-legged best friend? Visit https://yakimahumane.org/adopt/ to see the many loving animals in need of a home.
Want to support our life-saving work? The 2024 Fur Ball is just 17 days away and tickets are still available. Join us for our biggest and most impactful event of the year on Saturday, June 29 at the SunDome! For more info and to reserve your tickets today, visit https://yakimahumane.org/events/
Cheers to our amazing community of animal advocates! We can’t do it without you! 🍾🥂🐈🐶
Special thanks to the Davis High School dog walkers.
Your dedication to the YHS pets is greatly appreciated. We look forward to seeing you again next year.
❤ Please have an end of life plan for your pets.
Cocoa was surrendered after her owner of ten years passed away. It's always sad to see seniors enter the shelter but you know they are even more confused in situations like these. Cocoa doesn't act her age, she has amazing teeth and if we didn't know better we wouldn't put her a day over eight years old. She has long legs and walks well on leash. She is very sweet and friendly especially if you have a snack to share with her. She is looking for a place to crash and spend her golden years.
🐾 Remember family isn't always able to take on the responsibility of your pets. Please plan ahead.
❤ Apply to adopt Cocoa at www.yakimahumane.org or in person at the adoption center.

Meet Garfield, a five year old male Domestic Shorthair cat weighing in at over ten pounds.
Garfield is a friendly boy who loves to lay in the window and catch rays of sun. He was found as a stray and brought in as the finder was unable to keep him. He loves to purr and get chin scratches along with scratches on his massive cheeks.
Garfield is FIV positive. Cats with FIV can live full and happy lives but must be indoor only. Please do some research prior to applying to adopt Garfield.

What you see 🐾 VS 🐾 What we see
At YHS many times pets are overlooked due to the behavior seen in the kennel. Please ask a staff member to share their experiences with any pet you are interested in. We love to talk about the pets in our care and would be happy to help you find the right pet for your family.
Pets seen in this video are: Curtis ❤ Toby ❤ Paloma
🐾 Happy Tail 🐾
His original name was Desmond, but we named him Rip. He has been the most perfect addition to our family, and we cannot picture our lives without him. He’s full of energy, plays super hard, and is such a good boy. Thanks again for everything!

Meet Edward and Elvira, eight week old Border Collie/Shepherd mixes that were part of a litter of eleven found on the side of the road.
We aren't saying they were dumped...but we would sure like to know how this group of pups found themselves in such a predicament. These very friendly kids seem to really enjoy human companionship. They are the last two of the litter and a little more reserved. They are looking to the humans for reassurance just like any good pup.

A midnight call out alerted YHS to a property perimeter fire resulting in the destruction of over $4000 of supplies. YHS staff are so grateful to the Yakima fire crews for their quick response. The fire was not endangering any animals or the adoption center building but they made sure to control and contain the fire quickly to prevent as much property loss as possible.

Celebrate International Family Day!
What better way is there to celebrate International Family Day than by adding to your family?
Meet Tuck, an almost eight year old German Shepherd Mix.
Tuck was picked up as a stray in July of 2023. We can't believe this mature gentleman has been with us for this long! Tuck is a great size at 66 pounds and is stocky rather than tall so he looks more like a medium sized dog. He walks very well on the leash with minimal pulling and is an all around great boy who enjoys human interaction.
❤Community Cat Care❤
Please remember that community (feral) cats still need proper care. Here at YHS the community cats are provided with:
🐾fresh water
🐾hard and soft food
🐾shelter
🐾soft bedding
The Yakima community is so amazing! ❤
Special thanks to Lillian with Boy Scouts of America for the amazing handmade pet beds.

Piper Ann was adopted on March 21st of this year. She is learning to sit, stay, and loves to ride in the car. Piper Ann enjoys walks and is learning to fetch. Her fur is coming in beautifully, and she has won her groomer’s heart.
I hope other dogs in your shelter find loving, forever homes. I think Piper did.

🐾William got a photo-shoot🐾
Meet William is a distinguished eight and a half year old male Boxer/Staffy mix. William was found tied to a tree at a local park on a cold winter day before being brought in by animal control. We don't know why anyone would leave this boy and his big toothy grin behind! William has been with us since November so when he gets out of his kennel he has a bit of energy, but after a 5-10 minute walk he really settles down and can show you all the tricks he knows. 🐾Happy Tail from a Staff Member🐾 Buzz may look familiar to many YHS followers. Due to behavior issues he was considered by many visitors to be unadoptable. He became a long term resident of YHS, which is very uncommon for a small dog. What was the staff to do…see the video for Buzz’s story. Kennel Behavior is Not In Home Behavior ❤Foster❤Adopt❤
🐾FOSTERS NEEDED🐾 YHS is in need of foster homes. Fostering is a fun and rewarding experience. Please fill out a foster application at www.yakimahumane.org or email YHS's new Foster Coordinator Rachel at [email protected] to start your fostering journey. ❤Kittens in video are in need of fostering, they are not currently available for adoption.
Abandoned but Found YHS is looking for a Mastiff lover who can adopt Thanos. Left tied and alone with no food or water in the park, Thanos has no known background. Good Morning and Happy Thursday!! Today we would like to share some Lost Pet Prevention tips coming from 24 Hour Pet Watch. We believe there can never be enough tips and tricks for keeping your pet home as well as what to do if they do end up missing. Remeber if you lose a pet please visit our website and fill out a lost and found report with a picture as well as contact the microchip company that your microchip is with. It is also a good idea to post posters around the area the pet went missing. Threre are also lots of Lost and Found Groups for animals in the area so be sure to check those sites as well as maybe make a post if you are able. We hope everyone has a safe and happy Thursday!
We had some bags of stuffed animals donated throughout the year and with the cold weather we have been having, we decided to break out the stuffies and pass them out to some dogs in the shelter for enrichment time. Yes it does make a mess in the kennels but the extra cleanup is worth the happiness of the animal getting to play with a new stuffy and find that darn squeaker!
48-hour countdown to the 2024 Claws for Paws Crab Feed at the SunDome! The stage, runway, and lighting are set! We still have one table for 10 and 8 individual seats available. We expect those to sell out by the end of the night. This is your last chance to reserve your ticket and join us for an epic night at the SunDome! Crab, beer, wine, friends, and dozens of adoptable animals await! Join us on Saturday and help support our mission to care for the countless homeless animals who are depending on us! We would like to remind the public that we ARE NOT STAFFED 24/7. This morning staff came into work and found this boxed taped shut outside the front gate💔 Luckily our staff arrived in time and this adorable kitty was not harmed by the cold temperatures. Since our shelter is not staffed 24/7 it is dangerous to leave animals at our gates after hours- especially those that are taped shut in a box and have no way of escaping to find shelter or warmth. This story could have ended differently had our staff not checked the gate or if the animal was placed out there any earlier. A picture of this girl will be added to the comments, if you recognize her please contact us at 509-457-6854 and if you are interested in adopting her please keep an eye on our website as she will be posted when she is available.
