Today, we helped Lilly cross the rainbow bridge, and she took one last car ride in my arms with the sun on her face. 15 years of a wonderful life but her rapid decline was too much to ignore any longer. Everything that you would want in a companion and everything you would expect from a "good dog", Lilly was it. My husband got her as a pup when he was only 17 years old. Half his life he's spent with her by his side in the good times and in the bad, she was there. When it came time for us to be by her side we were there. She might not have been able to see us, or hear us, but she could feel us and now she runs with her brother Zues and older sister Lucy free of pain and the breakdown of her old age. In her prime once more. She gave us such great years, and fun adventures, and laughs, my first child's first laugh actually. You may be gone from sight my dear, but you're memory will live on in the house as we talk about you in fondness and love. My heart breaks and the sadness I feel is like waves of peace and grief all the same.
