Last week, we shared about the animal cruelty case with regards to Roger and Robin McLean in the Wallburg area of Davidson Co NC. This was the puppy mill where 177 dogs were safely rescued. We are going to be sharing pictures of the dogs (before and after), conditions and some of their Happy Tails!
Today, we want to tell you about this sweet boy, affectionately named Roanie, by his foster family, rescued from the McLean property. His original rescue fell through. After all, he was also signed over to ACF, while in court.
Dogs? Yes, we know about dogs all day long! Horses? A couple of us have horses. Thankfully, someone on our board, connected me with a horse family, eager to help! Hallelujah!
On Wednesday, this sweet boy was finally rescued by us, ACF. Yes! We have him. Yes! He is safe with us. From the photos, you can come to your own conclusions regarding him. I kept thinking “these poor dogs have been through hell. This horse has too. He deserves a happy ending, just as the 177 dogs”.
This horse that we’ve watched, week after week, with no shelter, baking in the hot sun or freezing in his small corral. He never was able to leave the corral. Zero care! By Wednesday at 1130am,, he would be making his way to his very own paradise the only one he’s ever known.
The BIGGEST thing here, you’ll notice, from the pictures… they were STARVING him! 🤬 🤬 🤬
Wednesday he left that hell hole! Wednesday, he rode to his new foster family’s farm. Out of the trailer, his foster mom was literally heartbroken. They went into action. Fresh water! Fresh alfalfa! A vet to see him, the very next day.
The McLean’s have lied time and time again about this horse! We will never know his truth, while there, BUT, we know his truth now!
Several of us were on site with this new vet, yesterday! Here is what we know, so far!
His foster family has affectionately name his “Roanie”. He is only 5-6 years old and still has baby teeth. He is gelded.
Soooo….. on Roanie!
1. Roanie was negative for parasites. He had ZERO in his stomach per vet. The only p**p he gave her was the alfalfa that he had been eating at the fosters.
2. She did a Coggins test. Said it would be 3 days to get that result back.
3. She is VERY optimistic that he will make a full recovery.
4. She explained to us about the different disorders that horses can have. She said without testing that you don’t know for sure BUT she said that she thinks that this is a case of nothing more than STARVATION!! 🤬 🤬
Today, Roanie is thankful. Every single day of his life, from here on out, he will always be thankful AND so are we!
Game Plan:
He will get alfalfa for the next 4-6 weeks, plus unlimited water and the salt blocks. The vet said in 2 weeks we could start seeing a difference in his appearance. He is so thin that his patella’s are protruding so far out. How this horse did not die over at Roger‘s, I have no idea. One thing is for sure, HE HAS THE WILL TO LIVE and NOT be a statistic any longer!
He is incredibly sweet. He is loving all of the attention, back scratches and food/water!
His vet care and food cost will be expensive. You see these photos and ask HOW? WHY? We ask the same! Roanie deserves to have a wonderful family, no doubt. Right now, he needs groceries! Horses are large animals and he will only get the best. We need YOUR help to make sure he continues getting the alfalfa diet, salt blocks and excellent vet care. Any amount is very much appreciated!
