Pupdate:

The vet from the ER called this am. They were able to get his glucose back to stable. He is on heavy pain meds and remains sedated. He is still VERY critical. He will remain at the ER vet for at least 3 more days, as they try to figure out where this blockage is. Thank you to all who have donated. We are going to need a miracle! 🙏

🆘 🆘 Benji 🆘 🆘

We got an URGENT call this evening from one of our vet partners asking if we could take a dog that the owners were going to euthanize. The dog hadn’t eaten in 4 days. The dog was believed to have had a large bladder stone and needed emergency surgery. The owners opt’d for euthanasia and we were called. There was literally no time to do anything but say YES and worry about how we were going to pay for it, later. Benji came through surgery, but started to decline while under. There was no bladder stone detected via xray, but the vet at the ER vet believes he has a blockage in his prostate

He is VERY critical The ER vet has given him a 50/50 chance. So, we wait.

We need funds for both his surgery and then his care at the ER vet. He is in bad shape. His sugar has bottomed out, because he hasn’t eaten. We have a VERY SICK little boy who is fighting for his life!

Please help us, help him!

Last week, we shared about the animal cruelty case with regards to Roger and Robin McLean in the Wallburg area of Davidson Co NC. This was the puppy mill where 177 dogs were safely rescued. We are going to be sharing pictures of the dogs (before and after), conditions and some of their Happy Tails!

Today, we want to tell you about this sweet boy, affectionately named Roanie, by his foster family, rescued from the McLean property. His original rescue fell through. After all, he was also signed over to ACF, while in court.

Dogs? Yes, we know about dogs all day long! Horses? A couple of us have horses. Thankfully, someone on our board, connected me with a horse family, eager to help! Hallelujah!

On Wednesday, this sweet boy was finally rescued by us, ACF. Yes! We have him. Yes! He is safe with us. From the photos, you can come to your own conclusions regarding him. I kept thinking “these poor dogs have been through hell. This horse has too. He deserves a happy ending, just as the 177 dogs”.

This horse that we’ve watched, week after week, with no shelter, baking in the hot sun or freezing in his small corral. He never was able to leave the corral. Zero care! By Wednesday at 1130am,, he would be making his way to his very own paradise the only one he’s ever known.

The BIGGEST thing here, you’ll notice, from the pictures… they were STARVING him! 🤬 🤬 🤬

Wednesday he left that hell hole! Wednesday, he rode to his new foster family’s farm. Out of the trailer, his foster mom was literally heartbroken. They went into action. Fresh water! Fresh alfalfa! A vet to see him, the very next day.

The McLean’s have lied time and time again about this horse! We will never know his truth, while there, BUT, we know his truth now!

Several of us were on site with this new vet, yesterday! Here is what we know, so far!

His foster family has affectionately name his “Roanie”. He is only 5-6 years old and still has baby teeth. He is gelded.

Soooo….. on Roanie!

1. Roanie was negative for parasites. He had ZERO in his stomach per vet. The only p**p he gave her was the alfalfa that he had been eating at the fosters.

2. She did a Coggins test. Said it would be 3 days to get that result back.

3. She is VERY optimistic that he will make a full recovery.

4. She explained to us about the different disorders that horses can have. She said without testing that you don’t know for sure BUT she said that she thinks that this is a case of nothing more than STARVATION!! 🤬 🤬

Today, Roanie is thankful. Every single day of his life, from here on out, he will always be thankful AND so are we!

Game Plan:

He will get alfalfa for the next 4-6 weeks, plus unlimited water and the salt blocks. The vet said in 2 weeks we could start seeing a difference in his appearance. He is so thin that his patella’s are protruding so far out. How this horse did not die over at Roger‘s, I have no idea. One thing is for sure, HE HAS THE WILL TO LIVE and NOT be a statistic any longer!

He is incredibly sweet. He is loving all of the attention, back scratches and food/water!

His vet care and food cost will be expensive. You see these photos and ask HOW? WHY? We ask the same! Roanie deserves to have a wonderful family, no doubt. Right now, he needs groceries! Horses are large animals and he will only get the best. We need YOUR help to make sure he continues getting the alfalfa diet, salt blocks and excellent vet care. Any amount is very much appreciated!

On Friday, June 27th, justice was served for 177 dogs in Davidson County! This is a case that ACF has been working with our DCSO Officer Soles and Cpl. Daniel since December 2024. Thanks to an anonymous tip, from a concerned citizen, we started on the ground with this case. One by one, month by month, as of, this past Friday, ALL dogs, including their personal dogs, have been removed from the property. This includes the horses too.

Together, Roger and Robin McLean received 40 counts of Instigating Animal Cruelty. Not nearly enough for what some of these dogs faced but they are all resting in happy foster or adopted homes, no more litters of puppies, no more nasty conditions.

This was a HUGE undertaking. We ALL showed up and went above and beyond making sure everyone had a spot. More on the rescues that came together, soon.

As the week goes on, we will be sharing lots of pictures of this case. We will also be asking for donations, as the last 27, need extensive care. Not only vaccines, but dentals, spay/neuter and lots of quality food.

These poor dogs have been through hell! Some scars will never heal. If not for our amazing fosters and rescue partners, we could never have gotten 177 dogs to safety!

I want to personally thank our team at ACF for droppingg everything on Friday. When I left the courthouse, I went straight to the residence. Our team was there, ready to get all dogs out and to safety!

Pictured from left to right is Officer Soles with Chloe and Cpl Daniel with one of the dogs from Friday! Both dogs are being fostered to adopt by these two!

With much gratitude,
Beth Blevins

This is the case that we’ve been involved with since December 2024. We have watched our AC officers work tirelessly on this case and we’ve rescued over 100 animals. Horrid conditions. Ones that I could tell each of you about and you would never believe. No vetting, hardly fed, and truly every dog begged to be rescued. We were on site, so many times, and so many eyes, plead with us. We will post pictures, when allowed, but today, so many have been freed from this prison. No longer standing belly deep in their own f***s, no water, multiple health problems. Just one question from them. “What did we do to deserve this”?

Huge thank you goes out to our AC officers with Davidson County Sheriff's Office! They went above and beyond!

I first want to say we have an amazing village, because that is what it takes to keep up with all of the incomings and adoptions! We have had THIRTEEN adoptions in the last two weeks! We have THREE pending adoptions for Saturday and Sunday. We are all a team and we appreciate each volunteer, whether you foster or work in our store! We couldn't save as many as we do, without teamwork!

We have lots of dogs for adoption, if you're looking for your new best friend!

These are the pups that went to their forever homes, the last two weeks!

Sully, Cali, Wes, Walt, Bashful, D***y, Snow White, Happy, Benji, Ozzie, Simon, Melinda and Marvin! Whew! OH and little Georgie!

We could not accomplish everything we do without our vet partners! They take care of our dogs to get them ready for adoption!

WINSTON SALEM NC

Look at this handsome fella! This is Homer! He was the product of being dumped, but that doesn't define him! This boy LOVES big! He LOVES people, most especially his foster family! He is very playful and smart! He LOVES toys, most especially his KONG (with peanut butter) and his squeaky toy! He loves to watch TV, hang out on the couch, or by the pool. He is not at all aggressive and he leans into you for love. He is fine with other dogs, curious of the resident cat, but doesn't bother him.

Homer is 1-2 years old. He is up to date on vaccines, He is now neutered and microchipped. Unfortunately, he is HW+. He will start treatment soon, which is very expensive. He was a fan favorite at the vets office! He is hesitant about getting in the car and it takes some coaxing, but this is the fear of being dumped, again. This will take time, but he will build confidence, there. Homer is crate trained and house trained, but he will mark, if he smells another male dog in the house. He would be fine as an only dog too.

His ideal home is a retired family or an active family. He's a couch potato and lounger... but he can run and play with the best of them too!

Homer is one of the sweetest pitties we have ever come across! He deserves happiness too! Forever.

To be considered for adoption, please go to our website and complete the adoption application.

https://acfrescue.weebly.com/adoption-foster-and-volunteer-applications.html

The adoption fee is $350. This covers his vet exam, all vaccines, heartworm test, prevention, neuter and chip.

PLEASE SHARE HIM!

We’ve had 83 adoptions, since Jan 1! Here are, only some, of the cuties who have found their forever homes! Like every other rescue, we are slammed. Incomings, Vet Care, Transports and Adoptions! Literally, it never stops! We will try to be better about posting our Happy Tails. 🐶 🩷💙🐶🐾

We honor those five dogs, that crossed the Rainbow Bridge, in the months of February, March and May! We will keep fighting for you! Your life mattered. The abuse and neglect, you endured had long since taken its toll!
