PAW Alliance New Leash on Life & New Start in Life

Piedmont Animal Welfare Alliance is an animal welfare & social justice nonprofit in Forsyth County, NC. We envision a world where no person or animal will be thrown away, and our mission is to make our community one where all pets and people have safe and loving homes. www.paw-alliance.org

To fulfill our mission, we have two programs:
A New Leash on Life prison dog-training program: Saving Men's

Lives, One Dog at a Time. Shelter dogs in need of training receive 10 weeks of training: crate- and house-training; obedience training, advanced obedience, and some agility. Qualified inmate-trainers work under the volunteer guidance of instructors from the W-S Dog Training Club. All dogs are spay/neutered, fully vaccinated and under veterinary care. This program changes the lives of both dogs AND men, who perhaps for the first time, receive unconditional love. Our trainers' recidivism rate, since 2015, is 0%! Our second program, A New Start in Life, offers temporary loving care for domestic violence survivors' pets. We provide foster care, medical care, and all necessities while the survivor is in the d.v. We ALWAYS need volunteers and fosters. In our New Leash on Life program, it’s not just the dogs who are transformed—it’s the people, too.

Through training, companionship, and compassion, both our dogs and their trainers grow in ways that words can’t always capture—but moments like this can.

FRI-YAY FEELS! 🐾🎉

After weeks of hard work, tail wags, training sessions, and LOTS of love…ALL of our Class 20 pups have been adopted!! 🐶💛

These incredible dogs have found their forever homes—and we couldn’t be prouder of how far they’ve come. From their first leash walk to their final graduation bow, they’ve shown resilience, growth, and so much heart.

To our amazing adopters, supporters, fosters, trainers, and everyone who cheered them on—THANK YOU. You made happy endings possible.

WINNIE GOT HER FAIRYTALE ENDING!

Our sweet girl Winnie has officially been ADOPTED—and by none other than her amazing foster mom! 💕 It turns out fostering turned into forever, and we couldn’t be more thrilled!

Winnie now spends her days snuggled up in cozy beds with her new fur-sibling, enjoying long walks, and being the emotional support queen when storms roll in. She’s showing her new mom every day just how magical she really is.

Thank you to her wonderful new family for not only giving Winnie a safe place to land—but a forever home filled with love.

Here’s to happily-ever-afters, second chances, and the dogs who steal our hearts when we least expect it.

We’re receiving urgent requests from the local domestic violence shelter to help care for survivors' dogs for a few months. These pets often haven’t had vet care or been spayed/neutered.

🐾✨ BIG GABBY NEWS! ✨🐾

Our sweet Gabby has officially found her forever home—and it’s one that was meant to be. 💛

After graduation, Gabby had a walk with her foster Beverly and two members of her soon-to-be pack. That led to a Sunday playdate… which turned into a sleepover… which turned into forever. 🥹

Though Joy and Chad weren’t looking for another dog, Gabby’s gentle spirit and loving heart made the decision clear. She fit right in with the pack—and right into their hearts.

Gabby will be making her official move this weekend, and we couldn't be more thrilled for her (and for Joy and Chad)! From foster love to forever love—Gabby’s story is what it’s all about. 🐶💕

Sweet Annie found her perfect match! 💕 Just a few months ago, she graduated from the New Leash on Life program—and now she’s thriving in her forever home.
