Piedmont Animal Welfare Alliance is an animal welfare & social justice nonprofit in Forsyth County, NC. We envision a world where no person or animal will be thrown away, and our mission is to make our community one where all pets and people have safe and loving homes. www.paw-alliance.org

To fulfill our mission, we have two programs:
A New Leash on Life prison dog-training program: Saving Men's

Lives, One Dog at a Time. Shelter dogs in need of training receive 10 weeks of training: crate- and house-training; obedience training, advanced obedience, and some agility. Qualified inmate-trainers work under the volunteer guidance of instructors from the W-S Dog Training Club. All dogs are spay/neutered, fully vaccinated and under veterinary care. This program changes the lives of both dogs AND men, who perhaps for the first time, receive unconditional love. Our trainers' recidivism rate, since 2015, is 0%! All our dogs are adopted into loving homes. OUR DOGS ARE AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION! Please go to https:www.paw-alliance.org/adopt

Our second program, A New Start in Life, offers temporary loving care for domestic violence survivors' pets. We provide foster care, medical care, and all necessities while the survivor is in the d.v. We ALWAYS need volunteers and fosters. Please reach out to us. www.paw-alliance.org/volunteer and www.paw-alliance.org/foster

Always be yourself... unless you can be Batman, in which case, always be Batman!!!

At approximately 1 year old and 36 pounds, Batman is still a young dog with his whole life ahead of him. While he may not come charging up to strangers looking for attention, that's part of what makes him so special. Batman is a little shy when you first meet him, carefully taking in the world around him and deciding who he can trust. But once you earn that trust? You become his person! The walls come down, and the sweet, loyal dog underneath shines through. Batman forms deep bonds with the people he loves and wants nothing more than to be by their side. He's the kind of companion who reminds you that the best relationships aren't rushed - they're built on patience, trust and love.

With his soulful brown eyes and adorable ears and handsome black coat, Batman has all the makings of a superhero. What he needs now is a family willing to give him the chance to show them just how wonderful he is.

During Batman's 10-weeks of training, he will work on crate and house-training, leash manners, obedience and agility. He is available for adoption and go home with his adopter at his graduation which will be held on August 12, 2026. His adoption includes all vet recommended age appropriate vaccinations, rabies, microchipped and neutered.

We may have a problem...

Honey arrived as a shy little stray who wasn't quite sure what to think about people. But every day she's becoming more confident, more playful, and more affectionate.

Somewhere along the way, Honey seems to have forgotten she's supposed to be looking for a forever home - because she's gotten pretty comfortable stealing hearts right where she is.

Her foster family is trying very hard to remember the assignment... but Honey is making that extremely difficult. No surprise is it?

Tulip fell asleep with her most prized possession—her favorite rubber ball—still tucked safely in her mouth.

Maybe she's dreaming about the family she's been waiting for.

Tulip loves her foster home and her doggy friends, but what she wants most is a family to call her own. A couch to curl up on. A person to greet at the door. Someone to love, be loved by, and maybe even share her beloved ball with.

This sweet girl has done everything right. She completed 10 weeks of professional training through New Leash on Life, is fully house-trained, gets along wonderfully with other dogs, and has a gentle, loving personality that wins hearts wherever she goes.

Yet somehow, Tulip is still waiting.

Could you be the person she's been dreaming about?

Let's help Tulip find the forever family she deserves. Please share this post—you never know who might be looking for a best friend just like her.

Lives are changing every day at PAW Alliance.

Last month, Samuel, Basil, and Tulip graduated from our 23rd New Leash on Life prison dog training program and began the next chapter of their journey toward forever homes. Through 10 weeks of training, these dogs gained confidence, skills, and a brighter future—while transforming the lives of the people who trained them.

At the same time, our New Start in Life program continues to provide safe temporary care for pets whose owners are escaping domestic violence. In 2026 alone, we've already helped more pets than we served during all of last year.

Every success story is made possible by supporters like you. Your generosity helps provide food, medical care, training, enrichment, and safe shelter for animals in need.

Together, we're creating second chances for pets, survivors, adopters, and families throughout our community.

Class 24 Begins Monday, June 15! 🐾

We’re excited to introduce the first two dogs selected for our next New Leash on Life class at Forsyth Correctional Center!

🐶 Scooby
Scooby joins us from Davie County Animal Shelter. Born at the shelter, he was adopted as a puppy but sadly returned earlier this year through no fault of his own.

Now 11 months old, Scooby has spent much of his young life in a shelter environment. Despite that, he remains happy, easygoing, and incredibly resilient. His cheerful spirit tells us he’s simply waiting for the person who will finally give him the forever home he deserves.

🍯 Honey
Honey comes to us from Forsyth County Animal Shelter. Once a stray, she’s still a little shy and unsure of the world, but she’s learning that people can be kind and that good things are ahead.
At just 1–2 years old, Honey currently weighs about 30 pounds, though we’d love to see her reach a healthier weight of around 45 pounds. She’s been thriving in foster care for the past few weeks and is beginning to discover the joys of playing with other dogs.

We can’t wait to watch their journeys unfold.

Please join us in welcoming Honey and Scooby to Class 24!

It's Thankful Thursday 🐾

Today we're sending a very special thank you to Sierra, owner of Howlin’ At The Moon Dog Bakery for helping make graduation day even sweeter for our New Leash on Life graduates!

Sierra generously donated beautiful graduation cookies for each of our graduates, adding a thoughtful and heartfelt touch to a day that celebrates hard work, growth, and second chances.

Thank you, Sierra, for supporting our mission and helping us celebrate the people and pups who make the New Leash on Life program so special.
