🐾 A Friendly Reminder About A**l Glands 🐾
We want to share a little information about a**l glands because they can sometimes cause issues unexpectedly — even when they were expressed during a recent grooming appointment.
During grooming, we can externally express the a**l glands when needed, but this does not guarantee they will stay empty or problem-free afterward. Every dog is different, and some dogs naturally refill faster than others. Stress, soft stools, allergies, diet, inflammation, or simply a dog’s individual anatomy can all contribute to a**l gland problems.
If your dog begins scooting, licking excessively, develops swelling, has a strong fishy odor, seems painful, or you notice blood or discharge, please contact your veterinarian. A**l glands can become impacted, infected, or even abscessed, and those situations require veterinary treatment.
While we’re happy to help with routine external expression as part of grooming, a**l gland problems can occur at any time and are not necessarily related to whether the glands were expressed at the last grooming appointment.
