𝙍𝙚𝙨𝙩 𝙄𝙣 𝙋𝙚𝙖𝙘𝙚 𝙍𝙚𝙙 𝘽𝙖𝙣𝙙
Sad news today, this afternoon our oldest and most famous Cornish Cross rooster, Red Band passed away from age at six years old. Known for being a unique spirit, Red Band didn't get the memo that Cornish are generally chill and docile and so he was a bit on the feisty side, getting his name from the red colored band we placed on his leg to identify him from other Cornish because he would chase and attack some of the volunteers and visitors. We'd say "watch out and keep an eye on the rooster with the red band!" or place him inside. He was always gentle and kind with me much to the amazement and chagrin of others, lol. One of our volunteers he'd even ram himself against the fence if she was on the other side working in the pygmy goat area! The last couple years saw him mellow a little from age and the several foot surgeries he had, common with the Cornish Cross sadly, until he moved into the special needs bird housing due to his mobility challenges. His big personality and spirit undoubtedly led to his long life for a Cornish cross and that same big personality and spirit, which made him a unique individual, will be greatly missed .
Rest In Peace Red Band 💔😢

Little Steve might be small for a rooster as a bantam but he has an amazing big, bold personality with a dash of Napoleon complex- highlighting that every rooster, including those rescued from cockfighting, have unique and individual personalities just like us. With his personality in mind he was named Steve, after the fictional character Steve Rogers. A small, skinny guy with a big, bold personality who wanted to fight the N***s during WWII but was rejected by the army for being physically too small. He then enlisted in a secret government experiment and became....

Beanz was rescued from a large goat dairy farm in the NE as a newborn baby to prevent him from being killed. Being killed simply for being born. The farm was killing all the newborns, boy or girl, so that the milk meant for them to help them grow could be sold to people.
Beanz was a lucky one who escaped death and after countless bottles, great medical care and safe fields for play with friends he's grown up healthy and enjoying sanctuary life with a grin! Goat dairy farms are the fastest growing form of animal agriculture in the US. The goat diary industry misleads the public into believing goat dairy is healthier and less cruel than cow diary- neither of which is true. A study conducted by NIH revealed goat dairy is no more healthier than cattle diary and because these massive farms can pack more goats into a space than cattle and all of the same forms of cruelty with the cattle dairy industry exists also with goats in some ways goat dairy could be claimed to be even slightly more cruel.

One week after her eye surgery, Wicket returns to her doctor for a checkup. She's had such a challenging and rough time but thankfully now she has many in her corner fighting to bring health, kindness and light into her life.
Until cruelty to animals is relegated to history books, some of us will continue to quietly fight for them, bring light into their lives, kindly letting them know they matter- they're not untouchable.
PFS is honored to rescue animals like her and in many ways, they rescue you right back.
