For years, an underground horse meat market operated in the shadows, fueled by stolen horses, missing paperwork, and total disregard for animal welfare. Many horses were neglected, trafficked, and killed without oversight, ending their lives in fear and cruelty.
A new law now strengthens enforcement against illegal horse meat operations, giving authorities more power to investigate trafficking networks, protect vulnerable horses, and hold those responsible accountable.
This matters because horses are not commodities. They are companions, working partners, and animals deeply woven into human history and family life. Treating them as disposable products is abuse, not tradition.
Animal advocates are calling this a long-overdue step forward. It wonβt end exploitation overnight, but for many horses, it could mean rescue instead of slaughter, safety instead of suffering, and dignity instead of silence.
