Morning folks! A soggy one indeed 😅 Can’t complain about this beautiful rain though! We are open today Sunday the 24th of May from 10am - 2pm. Decided to begin harvesting the first of our Broccolini this morning and it’s looking pretty sweet! Come see us today and stock up for the week ahead. Cheers Dan

Winter Rye is about ready to crimp. Will post some pictures of this process as I have in the past but essentially we flatten (crimp) the rye then will tarp it to kill any sneaky weeds then this will become Winter Squash with our own home grown mulch ground cover.

Doesn’t look like much now but it will be bursting with fresh herbs before we know it! I have always wanted a covered herb tunnel for certain herbs and I finally went for it. This should give me a much better outcome which of course will benefit our customers :) Hope everyone is having a good week thus far. Cheers Dan

Potting up Peppers this afternoon! The planting never stops. These will go in the ground the first week of June. Also, a huge thank you to everyone that made it to our first Farm Stand week of the season. We have many more to go with lot’s of fresh, locally grown veggies coming your way. Hey folks! A blast from the past picture (2022 our first season opening)!For those of you that have not met me yet please let me re-introduce myself. My name is Dan and I own and run Kiwi Roots Farm with my wife Kathleen and two kiddos. We are so grateful to part of such an amazing community here in Westbrook and surrounding towns. It has been quite the journey so far as we roll into our 5th season of Market Gardening. The support everyone has shown us has been incredible and without all of you showing up each week, this doesn’t work. We strive to grow the most nutritious, local food possible for our customers. It is a high priority of ours to be stewards of the land and to leave it in a better place than we found it. We implement and practice biological and regentative farming methods which you can learn more about on our website under ‘how we farm’ Thanks for your time and we look forward to seeing you at the Farm Stand this summer. Pointy cabbage time! Side note - Have not looked back after getting into soil blocking. One of the great advantages I have found with soil blocking and being a one man band, is that it buys me time ⏱️ Common issues with plastic cell trays is that seedlings get root bound which is not ideal for the health of the seedling but soil blocks air prune, so shelf life in the tray is longer and sometimes I need all the time I can get 🫨 win win!
