Plot Twist Horse Farm.
If you’re going to name your horse farm after one of your horses, she better be a spectacular one. And spectacular she was.
We lost our amazing Phoebe, aka Plot Twist, unexpectedly and suddenly last evening after a very brief illness. She was, and always will be, one of the greatest horses I’ve ever had the honor of calling my partner.
She taught me, and countless others, in her gentle, patient way for a decade.
She earned her name “Plot Twist” because she was never supposed to mine, or me, hers. A random phone call from a good friend, she was supposed to be headed to New Holland, but Chrissy Jackson knew how incredible this little mare was. So I said yes to a week trial, that obviously became permanent. The plot twist? I had already put a deposit on another horse. With a simple phone call, both our lives and destiny changed. And I will be forever grateful.
The little western pony became my main English show mount, winning many championships, year end awards and qualifying for the Colonial Classic.
And when Ryenne needed a rodeo horse, Phoebe stepped up. She wasn’t fast, but she was consistent and won Ryenne at least 6 buckles, money and qualified and traveled to Nationals in goat tying this past summer in Iowa. They had two clean, quick runs, finishing 71st in the World in Goat Tying.
But perhaps her greatest measure of greatness was the impact she had on many individuals lives. She gave confidence to those with anxiety, happiness to those who were depressed, the ability to walk for those who couldn’t, and love and acceptance to everyone who met her.
I guess it goes without saying, that I’m broken, my heart, my soul and spirit. She gave me strength and quiet when my dad died, I rode her everyday he was dying. She understood when I went through difficult life changes, she was always there, solid as a rock, to carry me and my heavy burdens.
I will miss her greatly and until my last breath. Rest easy my beloved soul and friend. You made the world and many people’s worlds better. You will be missed dearly.
I love you and am so glad your namesake will live on forever in our Farm name.
