If you’ve ever brought in a smoosh-face puppy, we’ve probably discussed a rhinoplasty. A common trait of brachycephalic dogs (aka smooshies) are changes to the airway that make it harder to move air, making breathing harder, especially in times of stress and heat. There are many parts of the respiratory tract that are often affected. The one that’s easiest to see & to reach, & therefore to correct, is the nose. The excess tissue that gets pushed in front of nostril openings can be removed, leaving larger, more normal “nose holes” from which to breathe.
