SEVERE WEATHER UPDATE:
We take the weather very seriously here at HHK not only for our visitors sleeping over with us but also for the safety of our staff. With the recent severe storms that Wisconsin has been experiencing we have taken extra caution and consideration in being proactive. As always our top priority has been safety for our four legged guests and their parents. Throughout the years of experience with storms we have always let out all of our visitors prior to the storm, closed all doors in each kennel run, closed and covered all windows, left additional lights on in each building, turned up the radio to an appropriate volume to sound out loud noises and lastly administered calming chews and/or prescribed anxiety medication as needed for nervous pups in our care.
Recently, what we have also found to work well in these severe situations is asking our pick ups/drop offs to arrive possibly before the storm or after the storm hits. We of course are no weather specialists, we just tune into the local news. We will always try to accommodate what works best for our customers in these situations. With that being said severe weather in our minds is high winds, large hail, and possible tornadoes (such as last week). Last week we did everything to try to avoid a drop off or pick up to arrive while the storm was approaching as we don’t want your dog to feel scared, nervous or have high anxiety during the stay.
Last week was very eye opening to Colleen as it was very hard and emotional for her to understand that she too had to take her safety into consideration as she does everything possible to protect each and every visitor. Colleen and Todd did end up in their basement last week which was the first time since we have opened. With the amount of dogs that we care for on a daily basis we try to communicate as much as possible however in this case if we are closed we will touch base the next day unless there was an emergency need to communicate. Please keep in mind our business hours are from 9:00AM-5:00PM.
A customer pointed out to Colleen “At the end of the day, our pups are our babies, but your safety is the most important! Weather is never anything we can control”.
After last week's severe weather, we feel very fortunate to have avoided any damage. That said, it's a reminder that weather can be unpredictable, and it's important to stay prepared.
