🌡 Extreme Heat Alert: Keep Pets & Livestock Safe! 🌡
With temps hitting record highs this week, it's crucial to take extra precautions to keep all animals safe — from your family pets to your barnyard companions.
Here are some heat safety Dos & Don'ts for animals of all kinds:
❌ The obvious big ones for pets - no hot vehicles & no hot pavement
✅ Fans to keep air moving - Even a shaded dog house, enclosure, or stall must have airflow
❌ No cooling down with ice packs or ice water - can cause more harm than good
✅ Use cool/room temp water & fans instead
❌ Don't leave wet towels on dogs, horses, or livestock
✅ Hose your horses, but scrape after spraying
❌ Don't ignore signs of heat stress - call us if you notice rapid breathing, excessive sweating, weakness, vomiting, abnormal gait or signs of colic
✅ Edit playtime, turnout hours, training schedules, etc. to avoid peak heat
✅ Add electrolyte paste, powder, or salt blocks for horses & livestock
If you’re unsure about your pet or animal's risk & need a plan for this week, give us a call. We’re here to help you keep them safe!
