Caldwell Zoo is a natural for family fun! Located in Tyler, Texas, Caldwell Zoo is home to more than 2,000 animals including zebras, giraffes, cheetahs, alligators, black bears, squirrel monkeys, flamingos, anteaters, black-footed penguins, parakeets and rosy-cheeked cockatiels. Come explore the African Savanna, North American and South American habitats and learn about all their inhabitants

. There’s also the African Aquarium, the North America Herpetarium with snakes and frogs, and the Wild Bird Walkabout. Mission
Caldwell Zoo’s mission is to preserve and protect animals. Conservation is an important part of that mission. The zoo is home to a dozen endangered species, including the cheetahs, ring-tailed lemurs, black-footed penguins and black rhinoceros. In addition to species listed as endangered, the zoo houses numerous animals that are threatened (the population is at risk of becoming endangered). Coatis and bald eagles are currently on the list of threatened species.

The exciting story of our Texas horned lizards is stretching far and wide, and Mix 93.1 FM is spreading the great news. It's important to us that our fellow Texans know that the tiny creatures that they used to see running around are now critically endangered. We proudly partner with Texas Parks and Wildlife and other institutions to release baby Texas horned lizards back into the wild so that, one day, they can roam like they did decades ago. It’s World Lizard Day, and we’re so excited to celebrate our amazing lizard buddies and their incredible diversity! 🦎 From the vibrant chameleon to the venomous Gila monster, Caldwell Zoo is home to lizards of many shapes, sizes, and personalities. Happy International Lion Day! 🦁 Today, we shine a spotlight on Njeri and Ayotunde, our stunning African lions. As part of the SAFE (Saving Animals From Extinction) program, we're dedicated to protecting these magnificent creatures. Not only are Njeri and Ayotunde majestic, they're intelligent! Through Natural Encounter Immersion training, our lions actively participate in their own veterinary care. From placing their paws on the fence for pad and claw checks to stretching tall for belly exams, these behaviors let us keep a close eye on their health. Their smarts and cooperation make all the difference in ensuring they thrive! Remember, when you visit the Zoo, you're helping animals all over the globe.
