Pets Fur People Pets Fur People is East Texas' oldest No-Kill shelter, where every animal is safe from euthanasia.

We rely solely on donations to provide a second chance at life for pets, ensuring they find loving homes and receive care for as long as needed. We believe that every dog and cat in our community should have the life it deserves - a warm bed, a full belly, a well cared for body and a loving home.

Hey hooman friends, it’s me—Turkey! No, not the bird… the ridiculously handsome, tail-wiggling feline currently holding down a cozy (but kinda cramped) cage at the shelter.

So here’s the scoop: I’ve got something called calici virus. It sounds scary, but it just means I can't hang out with other cats because I could pass it to them. Bummer, right? But good news—I’m NOT contagious to dogs or humans. And guess what? I LOVE both. Seriously, if you're a person or a pupper, I'm all about it. Let’s snuggle, wrestle, chill—whatever you're into.

Because of my virus and shelter life, I have to stay caged up and can’t party in the cattery with the other cool cats. I’m stuck watching them live their best lives while I dream of zoomies and sunbeams. I want that too. I deserve that too. 😿

I don’t need any special meds—just a little powder on my food to help keep my immune system in check. Easy peasy.

But here’s the thing… I was going to move to a bigger room, but because the shelter’s outta room I need to stay in my cage. My heart kinda cracked. But I’ve got an idea! There’s this super cool cat enclosure I could move into. More room to stretch, play, and pretend I'm a jungle panther. 😼 It’s on the expensive side though, so honestly, it might just be cheaper to adopt me instead… wink wink. 😽

Wanna meet me? Come on by—I’d love that.
Thinking about adopting me? Even better.
Can’t adopt but still want to help? Check out the Amazon wishlist, LINK in the comments. That enclosure could change my little life. And we only need 1.💛

Paws crossed,
Turkey the Cage Cat Who Dreams of More 🐈‍⬛✨

🌸 Adoption Announcement: Meadow’s Happy Tail!

From heartbreak to hope — sweet Meadow's journey is nothing short of incredible. 💕🐾

Once one of nine tiny puppies abandoned at our gate, Meadow has now found the happy ending she so deeply deserves. Today, we’re thrilled to share that this little lovebug has been adopted by Michael and his wonderful son!

Meadow is the gentlest, snuggliest cuddle buddy you could ever meet. Her soft eyes and tender heart won us all over — and now she’ll be getting all the love, playtime, and care from her new family every single day. Whether it's curling up for a nap or running around the yard, Meadow’s days will now be filled with joy, safety, and the warmth of a true forever home.

To Michael and his son: thank you for opening your hearts to this sweet soul. You've given her more than just a home — you've given her a whole new life. 🥹❤️

Adoption Announcement: Chiquita’s New Beginning 💕🐾

Sweet Chiquita came to us not long ago after her previous owner made the tough decision to surrender her, feeling they no longer had enough time to give this lovely girl the attention she deserves. At 9 years young, Chiquita still had so much love to give — and she wasn’t done sharing it.

Well, now she gets to give it all to someone truly special. 💛

We’re over the moon to share that Chiquita has found her perfect match in Debbie! This amazing lady saw Chiquita for the gentle, loving soul she is and knew she still had so much life left to live and love to give. Now the two of them get to spend their days side by side — exactly what Chiquita deserves.

Congratulations to this beautiful new duo. Here's to lazy cuddles, long walks, and a future full of love. 🐶❤️

🎉 Adoption - Percy Has Found His Forever Home!

We are over the moon to share that our beloved Percy has officially been adopted by the wonderful Chapman family! 💛

Percy came to us in 2023 after being abandoned nearby. Despite a rough start, he quickly won over every heart at the shelter. Whether it was his eagerness for a walk, his love of a good scratch, or the way he’d listen intently when someone just needed to talk — Percy proved time and again that he was truly one of the good ones. A staff favorite through and through. ✨

When the Chapmans came in to meet him, it didn’t take long to see the connection — it was instant. After just a short visit, they knew Percy was meant to be part of their family, and we couldn’t be more thrilled.

Percy, you’ve waited patiently and loved unconditionally. Now it’s your turn to be loved back, fully and forever. 💕

Congratulations, Percy and the Chapman family — here’s to a beautiful new beginning! 🎊

Yesterday, we were blessed with a visit from a wonderful group from Pleasant Retreat United Methodist Church—and wow, did they come with full hearts (and full hands)! 💛

They brought homemade dog treats, fun dog toys, and adorable cat toys—all lovingly provided for the animals in our care. Their generosity and kindness lit up the shelter, and our furry friends were thrilled with the surprise!

And the best part? Little Lucy, the sweet black kitten on the right, found her forever home with Christi (the lady sitting down)! 😻 Our hearts are full.

We can’t thank y'all enough for loving on our animals, taking the time to come by, enjoy a quick tour, and supporting our mission in such a meaningful way.

Come back anytime—we (and the animals) would love it! ❤️

🚨 Our shelters are full — and it’s only halfway through summer.

KETK recently highlighted the serious overcrowding crisis at Pets Fur People & local shelters. Every kennel is full, and more animals are arriving daily. We’re in desperate need of help — through adoptions, fosters, or donations.

❤️ If you’ve been thinking about adopting, now is the time.
🙏 If you can’t adopt, please consider donating to support food and medical care.

Together, we can give these animals the second chance they deserve.

🚨 Update:
The special project we had planned for this weekend has been postponed. Unfortunately, we won’t be able to move forward with it as originally scheduled. A huge thank you to everyone who offered to help—we truly appreciate your support! We’ll keep you posted once we’re ready to take it on. Stay tuned!
------------------------------------------------------------•

All Hands on Deck!! Pets Fur People is looking for a few awesome volunteers to help with a special project — and we could really use your help!

We need to move a wire dog run (fence) from the front of a kennel to the back, and we’re hoping to find some folks who are handy or comfortable with light construction work to assist.

Why? Because moving the run will give our dogs better visibility to potential adopters — and that means more chances at finding their forever homes! 🏡🐶

🗓️ We're looking to do the work during off/closed hours between Saturday, July 26 and Monday, July 28, and we’ll choose the day that works best based on volunteer availability.

🕐 Just a couple hours of your time can make a huge difference!

📧 If this sounds like something you’d like to be part of, please email us at [email protected] to sign up & please let us know what dates/times you are available.

Let’s work together to make life better — and adoption chances brighter — for our pups! 💛

🎉 Adoption Update: Peanut’s Journey Home 🐾

Sweet Peanut came to us in 2024 and was adopted soon after, but sometimes life throws curveballs — his family had to move and sadly couldn’t take him along. 💔

When Peanut came back to us, he was a little unsure and confused. But it didn’t take long for him to remember he was safe and loved here. With time (and a few treats!), he warmed up again to his familiar surroundings and all of us who missed him.

And now — we’re thrilled to share that Peanut has been adopted (again!) by Christina! 🥳🐶

We’re so happy for this sweet boy and his new mom. Christina, thank you for giving Peanut the second chance he truly deserves. We hope you two share a lifetime of love, cuddles, and tail wags. ❤️

Happy tails, Peanut! 🐾

Our Story

At The Humane Society's Pets Fur People, we provide an animal sanctuary for cats and dogs while helping them find their forever families.

Over the last 50 years, we have saved thousands of animals through facilitating pet adoptions and teaching responsible pet ownership at our no-kill pet shelter in Tyler, Texas. As a selective admission, life-sustaining animal shelter in Tyler, Texas, our mission is to provide a temporary haven for cats and dogs while helping them find the right home. By committing to these animals and connecting them with caring, loving families, we hope to reduce and ultimately eliminate the practice of euthanasia as an acceptable method of population control.

For more information about our animal shelter and how you can help out through adoptions and donations, please contact us today.
