“I just want her to have one litter before we spay her.”
We hear it all the time — but have you really thought about what that “one” litter could mean?

Do you personally know 6–10 families ready and responsible enough to take in puppies or kittens?
Are you prepared to handle a medical emergency if mama struggles during birth?
Could you make a heartbreaking decision if one of the babies is born with severe issues and may not survive?

This morning, our staff walked into a devastating scene. A litter of kittens had become tangled during or shortly after birth. One had already passed. The remaining four were at risk. Our team had to act quickly and make the painful call to cut the tangled umbilical cords in hopes of saving them. Because of the complications, the cords had to be cut very short. Tragically, another kitten didn't make it. The remaining three are still fighting for their lives.

This is the ugly, often unseen side of that "one litter."
It’s not always cute photos and wagging tails. Sometimes, it's loss, heartbreak, and hard choices.

So before you say, “I want her to have just one litter,” ask yourself:
Are you ready for everything that could come with it?
