Between 2016 and 2020, a novel anti predation method involving the application of artificial eye patterns on the hindquarters of cattle led to a documented 93 percent reduction in lion related livestock losses. This technique capitalizes on the behavioral tendencies of predators, which are less likely to attack prey that appears to be watching them. These findings highlight the potential of simple visual deterrents as a sustainable and nonlethal strategy for protecting vulnerable cattle populations in areas with high predator presence.
