N.B.S Animal Rescue is a 501(c)(3) Exempt, Non-Profit animal rescue that focuses 100% of our energy, time, money, and effort on providing the best care, training, and home environment for the dogs in our care as we work diligently towards finding loving adoptive homes for them. Animal Rescue WILL Make a Positive Impact! We know we can't do everything, but we know we can do something to help save a

n animal in need. With your help and support, N.B.S. Animal Rescue will continue to do what we can to make a difference in the lives of homeless, abandoned, abused, neglected, and forgotten animals in need. We focus our rescue efforts on pulling dogs from kill shelters in Michigan. We hope to help reduce the euthanasia rates in Michigan by approaching rescue from this angle. We ask you to please email us with any dogs that are currently in need as opposed to posting on our Facebook Wall. There are many, many animals in need everyday and we want our supporters to be able to follow our daily activities simply and easily.

Whenever we have an available foster family, we love to help pull a dog in need from our friends at Detroit Animal Care and Control. They take in a staggering 6000+ animals per year. We were honored to be able to offer a loving foster home to a little matted poodle who was locked in a bathroom with two other dogs abandoned by her previous owner after the family moved out, leaving a fourth deceased dog in a trash bag on the curb. 😡

When one of our volunteers went down to pick up this precious little lady after her hold time was up, he found her with a new significant injury to her neck. It's possible that she got her head stuck in the opening between her two kennels, resulting in the injury. We want to thank the staff at DACC who jumped into action to help get her pain medication so she could be as comfortable as possible on our way to Wilson Veterinary Hospital.

Due to the extensive injury to her neck, coupled with her upper respiratory infection, Ari was hospitalized for a week so that she could receive IV medications and have her wounds cleaned and cared for under anesthesia every other day. Her final bill ended up being over $2700.

We want to send a huge thank you to our friends at Animal Resource Funding Foundation for their generous donation of $700 to help cover a portion of Ari's medical bills at Wilson's.

In even better news - Ari found a wonderful new foster mom who loves her very much, and is planning on adopting her after her upcoming spay surgery!

Facebook fans, we could use your prayers for our buddy Blue tomorrow. You see, Blue came to us from a local shelter after being surrendered to them with a host of health issues that not been taken care of. He is an adorable, upper-middle aged Chihuahua that was underweight, had an untreated eye ulcer, intestinal parasites, allergies, overgrown nails, a urinary infection, dental disease, and and enlarged heart that required a cardiology consult. His enlarged heart revealed issues with leaky valves that makes anesthesia more tricky, but he definitely needs some dental work done. Tomorrow, he goes in for his dental procedure with with the cardiologist protocol. Our paws are crossed that he comes through with flying colors and a much more comfortable mouth when he heals up. On top of your prayers, he could also use some donations to chip away at his pile of medical bills from his multiple vet visits. His cardiology appointment and upcoming dental alone will total around $2000. We certainly think he is worth it!

Getting this email today both breaks our hearts and reminds us of the importance of the work that we do. With each dog we save and adopt out, we are also making a family complete and bringing them years of cherished memories. Mandy Mae was definitely a one of a kind dog, and several of her puppies that she had in our care ended up having her same unique look. Rosie (formerly Jaime) was one of them.

It is with the heaviest heart that we let you know our beloved Rosie (the last of Mandy Mae’s litter) has crossed over the rainbow bridge.
We have been extremely blessed to have loved her on this earth for almost 12 years. She was our constant companion at home and traveling across the country, through children growing up and off to college. She was a neighborhood favorite, deemed “The Mayor” of our street as you couldn’t pass by our house without greeting her. She especially loved and was loved by any children in the area. Many cars had to stop, roll down the windows so the kids could say hi to what was deemed as “the perfect dog”. I am biased so I have to agree! She loved hanging out at the school bus stop with “her kids” even after ours were grown and gone. “What breed is she?” was a constant question as she had such an interesting wire haired coat/color. My response of “one of a kind” was confirmed when we finally did a DNA test at the end and found that she not surprisingly had 22 breed! Shepherd, Rottweiler and American Pit Bull Terrier were in the top 3. Crazy because to me and so many others, she looked like an Irish Wolfhound, except for the height, and looked so much like her momma although we loving kept her coat longer.
We are eternally thankful for the work you do and for accepting Mandy Mae even though, like our Rosie, she was what I affectionately call a “plus sized girl”. Rosie enriched our lives and the lives around us including converting many who had a fear of large dogs.
She will be greatly missed by so many. Thank you for giving us this opportunity
Run free Rosie! 💗

Love,
The Harm Family

Meet Chip! He is a 5yr old Yorkshire terrier weighing in around 11lbs (he could lose a few). He came to NBS when his Mom had to go into a full time care facility. Prior to that, she loved him dearly and spent all her time at home with him. Chip loves his people and bonds strongly. He is used to having all the attention, so he would do best as an only dog, where he can be completely doted upon. Interestingly, while not always a fan of dogs, he does enjoy the company of feline companions. He enjoys going for leashed walks, but will sometimes bark at people and dogs passing by. His ideal home would be with someone who is home the majority of the time. He is potty trained, but has some separation anxiety, which leads to a tendency to mark when left alone. He is a tiny fella, so he will need a fenced yard with no openings to squeeze out of, or someone committed to walking him. If you think Chip sounds like a dog that you could devote your love to, please visit our website to fill out an application at: www.nbsar.org
