Whenever we have an available foster family, we love to help pull a dog in need from our friends at Detroit Animal Care and Control. They take in a staggering 6000+ animals per year. We were honored to be able to offer a loving foster home to a little matted poodle who was locked in a bathroom with two other dogs abandoned by her previous owner after the family moved out, leaving a fourth deceased dog in a trash bag on the curb. 😡
When one of our volunteers went down to pick up this precious little lady after her hold time was up, he found her with a new significant injury to her neck. It's possible that she got her head stuck in the opening between her two kennels, resulting in the injury. We want to thank the staff at DACC who jumped into action to help get her pain medication so she could be as comfortable as possible on our way to Wilson Veterinary Hospital.
Due to the extensive injury to her neck, coupled with her upper respiratory infection, Ari was hospitalized for a week so that she could receive IV medications and have her wounds cleaned and cared for under anesthesia every other day. Her final bill ended up being over $2700.
We want to send a huge thank you to our friends at Animal Resource Funding Foundation for their generous donation of $700 to help cover a portion of Ari's medical bills at Wilson's.
In even better news - Ari found a wonderful new foster mom who loves her very much, and is planning on adopting her after her upcoming spay surgery!
