I’m still not sure when I will be back to doing regular updates, but I wanted to keep you all in the loop.
Last week, we were in Florida on a trip for my youngest son. For those familiar with Jay's Juniors in Southeast Michigan, you know they send families to Disney every year. My youngest has been battling stage 4 neuroblastoma for seven years. We were actually picked to go last year, but we were in Texas for a clinical trial and couldn't make it, so Jay's Juniors invited us this year.
We left on Tuesday and everything started out great. However, without going into too much detail, he began experiencing bleeding issues that escalated by Friday. He required emergency surgery to remove a blood clot in his bladder, followed by a second procedure on Saturday.
At that point, things seemed stable, so I flew home with our other kids while my wife stayed behind, hoping they would be cleared to return by Monday or Tuesday. Unfortunately, on Monday, things took a turn for the worse and I was told to fly back down immediately.
His kidneys are shutting down, he is still battling clotting issues, and he has been on dialysis for a couple of days. We are hoping to have him medevaced home either late tonight or early tomorrow morning.
While prognosis isn't good, and even if he pulls through this, the road ahead is very long. I am not sure how long I will be away. I will try to hop on if there is critical weather to cover, if he is stable but otherwise, I need to be with my family.
Thank you all for understanding.
