A good reminder to make sure your dogs and cats are all up to date on their rabies vaccines! Skunks and bats are the most common carrier of rabies in Michigan - and there is no post-exposure treatment for animals like there is for humans. If your pet comes into contact with a wild animal, call us immediately to determine if a rabies booster may be necessary πŸ¦¨πŸ¦‡

A skunk has tested positive for rabies after biting a resident in Oakland County.

We love this warm spring-like weather, but unfortunately so do the creepy crawlies! 😫 We pulled this tick off of one of our patients today, which is a good reminder to restart your flea and tick prevention if you stopped for the winter!
We also now offer a one time injection that protects your dog from fleas and ticks for 12 months, without having to remember to give the monthly dose! Give us a call if you're interested and want to learn more, or if you need a refill on Nexgard!
Happy Spring! β˜€οΈπŸŒ·πŸ€

A friendly reminder that Dr. Bagwell and Dr. Reinhold, along with one of our Licensed Veterinary Technicians, Kenisha, will be out of the office Monday and Tuesday of next week for continuing education. They will be attending VMX, the largest veterinary conference in the world! We will still have staff in the office to answer phones, handle medication refills, and schedule appointments while the doctors are gone. If you think your pet may need to be seen prior to the doctors leaving, feel free to reach out as we do have some availability this afternoon and tomorrow before they leave 😊
If your pet has an urgent medical concern next week while our doctors are gone, the staff will be able to direct you to a local urgent care facility that will be able to see them quickly.
Thank you for your understanding! We hope everyone is staying safe and warm this week! πŸ₯Ά

Please help us wish one of our staff members, Brooke, good luck on her first day as a student in the veterinary technician program at Macomb Community College! Brooke plans to continue to work with us while in school, so luckily you'll still be able to see her around the clinic when you come in 😊
Congratulations, Brooke! We know you'll do great!

Attention to any of our clients who travel outside of the US (specifically, to Canada) with their dogs! The requirements for re-entry into the USA with your dog are changing as of August 1! You will now be required to present a health certificate (NOT just a rabies certificate) from a USDA accredited veterinarian prior to coming back into the country.

What this means for you: if you travel to Canada (or any other country) with your dog, please reach out to our office ASAP. Dr. Bagwell and Dr. Reinhold can counsel you on the requirements for the health certificate, and what we need to do to make sure your pet won't have any issues crossing the border.

It can take 28 days or more for the health certificate to become valid, so please don't hesitate to reach out to us sooner rather than later if you have any international travel planned!

Please be patient with our staff as we navigate the new requirements - this is a CDC procedural change and requirement that is new to all of us, and we will do our best to help facilitate the paperwork as efficiently as we can!

With summer starting, that means fireworks season! πŸŽ†πŸŽ‡ While they can be fun displays for us, the loud noises often cause stress and anxiety for our furry friends ☹️ if your dog gets anxious with noises from either storms or fireworks, please reach out to us before the holiday! We have a variety of options we can discuss to help you and your pet get through the holiday weekend with less stress 😊 As a heads up, the fireworks at Red Run in Royal Oak are scheduled for Thursday, for anyone who lives in the area!

We also wanted to let everyone know that our office will be closed for the fourth of July weekend (July 4, 5, 6 and 7). Please call us early next week if you think your pet may need to be seen, or need any medication refills, so we can be sure to get you taken care of before we close.

We hope everyone and their pets have a safe and sunny holiday next week!

We have made the difficult decision to close our office on Saturdays, beginning in July. It is our hope that this change will allow our hardworking staff more time to recharge each week. We understand that this change may make it more difficult for some clients to make it into the office, but we will do our best to be as accomodating as we can during our open hours on Monday-Friday, which are not changing. This will include adding in additional appointments on both Mondays and Fridays, so that Dr. Bagwell and Dr. Reinhold can see any pets with more urgent medical concerns that may need to be addressed prior to or immediately following the weekends. We appreciate your understanding during this time of transition, and we do still have appointments available on Saturdays in June for those who wish to take advantage of them.

With springtime and Easter coming up this weekend, Brooke wanted us to remind everyone that lilies are extremely toxic to cats! If you have cats, we strongly recommend not bringing any bouquets or plants with lilies into your household at all - even just licking the pollen or ingesting part of a leaf is enough to cause kidney failure, and even death for a cat. If you suspect your cat may have been exposed to lilies, call us or one of the local emergency hospitals ASAP, as rapid treatment is needed to prevent kidney injuries from occurring.

In addition, we wanted to announce that our office will be closed this Saturday, March 30. Our normal hours will resume on Monday April 1. We hope everyone has a happy and safe holiday with their families 😊🐰
