This Memorial Day, we are grateful for the freedoms they fought to protect — including the moments we cherish most with our families, friends, and beloved pets.

From all of us at Brown Veterinary Hospital, we wish you a safe and meaningful Memorial Day. As you spend time celebrating, don’t forget to keep your pets safe in the heat (or storms), around grills, and away from holiday foods that may upset their stomachs.

Leptospirosis ("Lepto") is a serious bacterial disease in dogs that can affect their kidney and liver function. Lepto can be found in soil, mud, and water contaminated by wildlife urine. Common symptoms can include vomiting, lethargy, increased drinking/urinating, and jaundice. This bacterium is zoonotic, which means it can spread from pets to humans. The best prevention? Vaccinate! We offer "Lepto" in our distemper-parvo vaccine. This vaccination does need to be boostered to ensure full protection. 🦠 💉
