It’s been a tough week, y’all. When we purchased this statue from the Lake Charles Symphony a few years back, it was a big decision for us. It was a larger investment for our small business, but it was one we felt strongly about. Supporting the arts in our community matters to us, and this felt like a meaningful and fun way to give back. We chose a former employee and fellow artist Jami Marras who beautifully brought our vision of creativity and joy to life through hours and hours of work.

We also loved the idea of our gator becoming something that brought people together — something fun, familiar, and uniquely ours that people could smile at, take photos with, and feel connected to. We love all the little kids that touch her and talk to her when they come in — honestly that’s who spotted it was missing first and alerted us.

Thank you to the LC Symphony who made a post this week and for all of the shares. We turned everything over all footage and timelines and info to the Sheriffs office who have been so helpful.

We pray that she will come home soon, but even if she doesn’t, God is still good and we are still so thankful to be a part of this incredible community of Southwest Louisiana!

Humanity over vanity
What does this mean? In dog grooming this means picking your pet over everything else. It’s when we don’t dry the face bone dry or we scissor the legs instead of using the clippers. We are choosing humanity when we shave Matting instead of brushing it out.
It’s a culmination of knowledge, skill, technique, experience and compassion.

By choosing humanity over vanity we are helping to build a confident trusting grooming dog with positive experiences.

We don’t want your dog to reach its threshold. We don’t ever want to get them to a place where they are shaking, pooping, crying, biting or puking in fear. It is our job together to help them instead of hindering them. Communicate with your groomer, know how they will handle your dogs specific needs. Will they hold them down, push them through it, brush until they’re both crying? Or will they slow down, try a different approach, give breaks, shave the matting?

The severity of mats. Mats are more than just a tangle in your dogs coat. A lot of people are unaware just how detrimental a mat is. Here is some knowledge on mats that will be quite the eye opener.
1. Mats pull on the skin.
2. They harbor bacteria, dead skin, debri and can smell.
3. They can create sores and wounds underneath.
4. Mats in the paw pads or armpits can change your dogs gait.
5. They are painful just existing. Creates bad blood circulation and can cause the blood to rush back to that area when removed. Hematomas. Bruising.

Removing mats:
1. Removing mats by brushing them out takes ALOT of time. And therefore costs more money.
2. Brushing them out still damages that hair.
3. Cutting them out can be dangerous especially if done by a non professional and will leave holes in the coat.
4. Clipping them out is still a lot of time, stressful and painful as the mats are pulled and tugged. It takes a very close (short) cut to get underneath mats to get them out. About 1/4 inch of coat will be left or bald spots.
5. When your dog needs the groomer to remove mats they are not set up for success. It is far more difficult to remain calm, comfortable and cooperative
