After more than 2 decades of compassionate and dedicated service to the veterinary field, we are both proud and a little emotional to announce the upcoming retirement of Dr. Debbie Edwards in August 2025.

Dr. Edwards began her veterinary career in Statesboro in 2002 when she co-founded Gateway Animal Hospital with her husband, Dr. Gary Edwards. Her passion for animal care, commitment to excellence, and dedication to both pets and their families quickly made her a beloved figure in the community. In 2007, she opened Best Friends Animal Hospital, where she continued to provide outstanding veterinary service and mentorship to her colleagues and team.

Over the years, Dr. Edwards has touched countless lives – both two-legged and four-legged – with her skill, warmth, and unwavering dedication. Her legacy is one of healing, leadership and heart.

Though she is stepping away from the exam room, Dr. Edwards’ impact will continue to be felt in every corner of our hospital and in the lives of the many people and pets she has helped.

Please join us in congratulating Dr. Debbie Edwards on her well-earned retirement and in celebrating her incredible career. We are so grateful for everything she has given to our hospital and the community.
