We’re sweating. The dogs are sweating. Even the A/C units we do have are sweating.

We’re urgently looking for 2–3 portable A/C units (the kind on wheels with a hose to vent out a window — no window units, please!) to help cool down some of the hotter rooms at the shelter.

💙 Working? Even better.
💙 Portable only — we love you but we can’t take window units!

We can comfortably house 65. Do the math. 🫠

That means we’re 43 dogs over capacity and deep in our “how is this real life?” era.
🐾 Every kennel is full.
🐾 Our pop-up crates have pop-up crates.
🐾 And our staff? Running on coffee, compassion, and chaos at this point.

✨ Mama Sweetheart: Professional Cuddler, Semi-Retired ✨

After a life of raising babies, Mama Sweetheart is finally getting a taste of peace and quiet — and let us tell you, she is thriving.

Her weekend foster was supposed to be just that… a weekend. But they were so smitten, they kept her nearly a week. She spent the first few days catching up on sleep (hard relate), and now she’s soaking up all the love like the seasoned pro she is.

✅ House guest approved
✅ Sweet, snuggly, and chill
✅ Healing from kennel cough and doing much better
✅ Would very much like to come back to the shelter tomorrow

She’s ready to retire her mama duties and just be someone’s baby now. If you’ve got a couch, a little patience, and a soft spot for sad-eyed sweethearts, come meet her. She’ll steal your heart and probably your favorite blanket.

🐾🔥 STL, We’ve Got a Hot Dog Emergency 🔥🐾

It’s pushing 100 degrees and while most of us are basking in the sweet, sweet AC, our shelter is packed and too many pups are stuck sweating it out in kennels or outside waiting for space. 💔

We need some local legends to step up and foster — even for a few days. Seriously. A weekend away from the noise and heat can be life-changing for these dogs.

✔️ You: bring the love, the couch, the AC
✔️ Us: provide food, vet care, supplies
✔️ The dog: finally gets to breathe, decompress, and maybe even get adopted thanks to your help 🐶💕

🥔 Meet Rutabaga—aka Ruty! 🍷🐾
He’ll be showing off his best good boy energy TODAY at Wine & Wags at Rockwell Beer Co (1320 Vandeventer Ave) starting at 4 PM—and he’s bringing some adorable friends with him! 🐶✨

Now, if you walked past a rutabaga in the produce aisle… would you even recognize it? Probably not. It’s one of the most overlooked veggies out there—sweet, a little starchy, a little bitter, but full of potential.

Same with our Ruty.

This 4-year-old pup was surrendered back in January and spent months in the shelter, totally overlooked. But after a month in foster care? He’s thriving. 🌟

🎾 Yard zoomies? Yes.
🚶‍♂️ Great on leash? You bet.
🛋 Couch cuddles? Top-tier.
💤 Chill crate time? Nailed it.
🧠 Knows “sit” and learning “target.”
🧀 Loves string cheese, puzzle toys, and being your sidekick.

Ruty is potty-trained, crate-trained, dog-friendly, and ready to be your go-to companion for anything and everything.

🍂 And with fall just around the corner—aka prime rutabaga season—there’s no better time to scoop up this sweet and sturdy gem.

🚨 It’s 92 degrees — feels like over 100 — and every kennel counts. 🚨

Every time we move a dog inside, another comes in from Animal Control. There’s no break, no extra space, and our dogs are feeling this heat and stress every single day.

We need fosters NOW.
A night in your air-conditioned home could save a life and free up a kennel for the next one in need.
