Meet Kelly Miller our new Education and Engagement Coordinator!

Kelly brings a background in teaching and group leadership to the organization’s adult farm education programs and workshops.

Kelly’s earliest garden memories involve digging up potatoes—she became enchanted by the way food could appear like buried treasure. She also has a fondness for gem hunting, which shares that same sense of discovery.

Coming from a family that values hard work, craftsmanship, and labor, Kelly has carried those principles into all aspects of her life. After earning a BFA in Metals and Jewelry from the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), she worked full-time as a bench jeweler by day and skated with the Arch Rivals roller derby team by night. She later returned to school to complete an MFA in Metalsmithing at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE) and went on to teach at Maryville University.

Throughout all of these experiences, her passion for plants and growing food remained constant. Life grew richer as she became a parent, got married, and built a studio practice that now includes metalsmithing, pottery, painting, and weaving. She transformed her front yard into a Missouri native garden and redesigned the backyard with help from the MSD Rainscaping grant. Her vegetable garden and chickens are now essential parts of her family’s daily life.

Each medium or task Kelly engages in is a thread in the fabric of her creative expression—tactile, intentional, and deeply personal. For her, growing food is a natural extension of her art.

Thank you Tara for hosting a work day at with our apprentices this weekend. We mulched paths and raised beds, and planted black raspberries in the vibrant garden of perennials and herbs for the neighborhood.

Huge thanks to our Slalom St. Louis and individual volunteers this Saturday at Fresh Starts! They helped mulch our pathways, fix a couple tables, put up our shade sheet, and w**ded!
