When Élida Acuña returned from Argentina to care for her father in Paraguay, she explained her decision simply: he was “the best dad in the world.”

Pablo Acuña was born without arms and with legs that did not develop fully. He needed help with many daily activities, but remained a central presence in his daughters’ lives.

According to the family’s account, their mother left when the older girl was three and Élida was just four months old. Pablo raised them with the support of his own mother, Ignacia del Valle.

Their childhood was built around that shared care: a father raising his daughters and a grandmother helping make everyday life possible.

Pablo used his nose to operate his phone and television remote. A wooden cart became his familiar way of getting around, with someone helping to move him.

Years later, when Ignacia grew too old to continue caring for him, Élida came home to help them both.

For a long time, the family also hoped for a home of their own. In January 2026, Paraguayan broadcaster Telefuturo reported that charitable support had made an adapted house possible. 🏡

The same report said Pablo still preferred his familiar cart, describing it as his home on wheels.

His story spans three generations of people caring for one another, each contributing in different ways as their needs changed.

Who in your family taught you what it means to be there for someone?

It's animal giving day. Miss Kitty's Cat Rescue rarely asks for donations but it's needed. Our expenses have increased year over year and we have approximately 70 cats in our care, that need homes. If you can donate time, money, food or Supplies, the kitties and I would be grateful.

📍Germfask, Michigan (Upper Peninsula)

📍Detroit Lakes City Park and Detroit Mountain Recreation Area, Minnesota

All nine were made by Danish artist Thomas Dambo using recycled materials. In Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, Benny the Beard Fisher lounges beside the Manistique River in Germfask, stretching his massive wooden beard into the water to catch fish. Benny measures roughly 30 feet long! Minnesota’s Detroit Lakes area has five more giants, including Alexa’s Elixir, who guards a bubbling cauldron and invites visitors to solve clues leading to a hidden Golden Rabbit and hundreds of birdhouses. Ronny Funny Face sticks his tongue out from behind the trees, while towering Long Leif holds living trees in his giant hands. Barefoot Frida encourages visitors to enjoy nature, and Jacob Everear rests above the Otter Tail River, listening for stories about loved ones. In Ohio, Aullwood Audubon’s wooded trails lead to Little Bibbi, Bo, and Bodil, a troll family whose story involves a mysterious metal egg and a young troll dreaming of flying.
