Niko Coffey came to visit us today because his eyes were bothering him. After examination, he was diagnosed with a corneal ulcer (this photo was taken before diagnosis).

He was absolutely wonderful during his visit—such a perfect boy! 🐾💙

Eye issues can progress quickly and become serious if not treated promptly. We always recommend giving us a call right away if your pet is experiencing any eye-related concerns so we can get them seen as soon as possible.

🐾 Feline Panleukopenia Awareness 🐾

Feline Panleukopenia (also known as feline distemper) is a highly contagious and life-threatening viral disease that affects cats — especially kittens and unvaccinated pets. This virus attacks the immune system and intestinal tract, causing severe illness that can progress quickly.

⚠️ Common signs include:
• Lethargy or weakness
• Vomiting and diarrhea
• Loss of appetite
• Fever
• Dehydration

Panleukopenia spreads easily through contaminated environments, clothing, food bowls, and even shoes — which means indoor cats are also at risk.

✅ The good news: Panleukopenia is preventable with proper vaccination. Early medical care greatly improves survival chances.

If your cat is showing any concerning symptoms or you have questions about vaccines and prevention, we are here to help.

Just like people, dogs and cats can develop heart disease. Some heart conditions develop slowly and may not show signs until they become serious. Early detection and prevention are key to keeping your pet healthy and happy.

Common signs of heart disease may include:

• Coughing
• Difficulty breathing or rapid breathing
• Lethargy or weakness
• Decreased appetite
• Collapse or fainting
• Pale or bluish gums
• Abdominal swelling

How to help prevent and detect heart issues:

✔ Regular veterinary exams
✔ Early evaluation of heart murmurs
✔ Maintaining a healthy weight
✔ Preventing heartworm disease
✔ Monitoring energy level and breathing at home

At Daya Urgent Veterinary Services, we are here to help evaluate and triage pets showing signs of cardiac concerns. Early care can make a life-saving difference.

If your pet is showing any concerning signs, please call us at 585-488-1116.

Today, we want to share a very special case — Tovi’s story 💙

Tovi came to us on January 26th in critical condition. She was lateral, had a low red blood cell count, and a high fever. After diagnostic testing, Tovi was diagnosed with parvovirus, a serious and potentially fatal disease.

Tovi’s owners made the compassionate decision to surrender her to Puppy Mill Rescue Group, and the Daya Urgent Veterinary Services team immediately stepped in to provide intensive outpatient therapy. Over multiple days of supportive care, Tovi showed incredible improvement.

✨ Today, Tovi is eating, drinking, and back to being a happy, playful puppy!

We are sharing Tovi’s story to raise awareness about parvovirus. This virus is highly contagious and can be deadly, especially in puppies. Vaccination is critical, and all pet owners should follow recommended vaccine protocols with their veterinarian.

⚠️ Parvovirus is considered a true emergency and often requires several days of aggressive supportive care.

Tovi’s recovery is a beautiful reminder of what compassionate care, teamwork, and early intervention can achieve. 🐶💙
