People For Pets

People For Pets helps pets find loving homes and people find loving pets. Before this agreement was made, these loving pets were put to sleep!

People For Pets is a non-profit organization devoted to finding loving homes for abandoned pets. We have an agreement with the City of Spencer, Iowa, to find homes for all stray cats and dogs not claimed within three business days. People For Pets is an all volunteer, private, nonprofit shelter and rescue. We receive no government funding and are supported solely by private donations and adoption fees. Volunteers are always welcome! Come Visit or Send a Donation:

We would like to thank the "Rescue Angels". These are the shelters that we work with that have the same pledge as us. Without their support, People For Pets wouldn't be possible. Thank you all for your time and dedication.

🚨 Caturday roll call! 🚨

Apparently, wet food is the hottest ticket in town, and our cats have absolutely NO chill about it. 😂 Whether they’re waiting patiently (or not so patiently) in their rooms, one thing is certain: WE NEED MORE WET FOOD!

Help keep our kitties happy and their bellies full! Every can makes a difference. ❤️

Meet Lainey! 🐾 This beautiful 2–3-year-old collie mix is one smart girl! She knows her basic commands, loves her people, and is happiest when she gets to spend time outdoors.

Lainey can be protective of her home and the people she loves, so she may do best as the only pet in the household. She does get along with other dogs and is good with cats, but a home with plenty of space and room to roam rather than a confined indoor environment would be ideal for her.

Lainey is looking for someone who will appreciate her intelligence, love her loyalty, and give her the space to be her best self. Could that be you? ❤️

🐾❤️ PETOBERFEST 2026 WAS ONE FOR THE BOOKS! ❤️🐾

We are still on cloud nine after last Saturday’s 10th Anniversary Petoberfest! 🥹🎉 We had the BEST turnout we’ve ever had, SOLD OUT for the first time, and raised approximately $60,000 — the most we have EVER raised at Petoberfest! We truly couldn’t be more grateful for the incredible support from our community.

An event like this takes so many amazing people working behind the scenes, and we want to give a HUGE thank-you to everyone who made this night possible!

🐾 Our fundraising committee for all the time, hard work, and planning that went into putting this incredible event together.
🐾 All of our volunteers who showed up and helped make the night run smoothly.
🐾 Yesterday’s for providing the delicious meal and catering our event.
🐾 Gary's on the River / Riverside Events for hosting us and providing such a wonderful space to celebrate.
🐾 Our incredible sponsors and donors who generously contributed to make this event such a success.
🐾 Everyone who purchased tickets, bid in the auction, donated, and came out to support us!

Every single one of you played a part in making this our most successful Petoberfest yet. ❤️

The money raised will help People for Pets continue our mission of saving pets four paws at a time. Behind every dollar is an animal who needs care, a second chance, and a family to call their own. Because of YOU, we can continue showing up for them. 🐶🐱

From the bottom of our hearts, THANK YOU! We are so proud of what our community can accomplish when we come together for the animals. Here’s to 10 years of Petoberfest and many more years of saving lives! 🥂🐾❤️
