I love raising farm kids with empathy. 🫶🏻🩵
Tonight we were gathered round the table after supper, Annie and I were watching some Facebook reels for some different softball drills I want to implement this week at practice.
We kept scrolling and Roger and Ellie were watching with us, we came across a video of a severely neglected horse, whose hooves were so overgrown they were circled up and around.
They were in total shock. “How can someone do that” “that poor horse” “why are people so cruel and mean?”
I don’t have answers other than some people are just inherently not good people.
I told them horses are unfortunately an often neglected or abused animal, because people don’t truly understand what type of time, care, and responsibility goes into horse ownership.
But what they took away from that, other than wanting the world to be better, and no animal to ever suffer in such ways. Is the knowledge that they make a difference here every single day.
Their animals are clean, fed, well cared for, needs taken care of and loved.
Yes, even the ones we eat. They get to grow up with a knowledge of proper animal husbandry, time, care, and dedication to something much bigger and greater than themselves. They know their animals eat dinner before us, they are to be looked after daily, their needs addressed. They have the comfort knowing, even ones destined for freezer camp are loved, cared for, to the best of our abilities until their final day.
How amazingly blessed we are to be able to provide them with that knowledge and lifestyle. 🩵💚
