🌡️ Heatstroke Is a Serious Matter! 🌡️

A dangerous heat wave is heading our way next week — and it’s not just humans at risk. Our furry friends are especially vulnerable to heatstroke. 😓🐶

📍 Know the signs:
🔸 Rapid panting
🔸 Bright red tongue
🔸 Lethargy or vomiting

🚨 Temperatures above 104°F can be life-threatening.
Keep pets cool, hydrated, and indoors during the hottest parts of the day.

🚨 Heat Warning for Pet Owners 🚨
Over the past few days, we’ve treated 3 pets for potential heatstroke — heartbreakingly, 2 did not survive.

With extreme temperatures expected over the next few days, please take every precaution to protect your pets:
🌡️ Keep them indoors during peak heat hours
💧 Make sure they have constant access to fresh water
🚫 Never leave pets in parked cars — even for a minute
🐾 Avoid hot pavement that can burn their paws

If your pet is panting heavily, lethargic, vomiting, or collapses — it’s an emergency. Seek immediate veterinary care.

Heatstroke happens very fast.

Here are a few quick tips to keep pets safe this season:
🌡️ Avoid walks during peak heat—early morning or evening is best

Help us wish a HUGE happy birthday to our employee pets Anchovy and Meatball who turned 1 year old today! Two of our staff members adopted them from the same parents and they have been growing up together at Plainfield Animal Hospital ever since!
