🌿 Seasonal allergies don’t just affect people; pets can struggle with them too. Pollen, grass, mold, and dust can all trigger irritation in dogs and cats, especially during certain times of year. But unlike humans, pets usually show allergies through their skin instead of sneezing.

Common signs can include itchy skin, paw licking, ear irritation, excessive scratching, and inflamed skin.

Today is the universal birthday for shelter dogs, and we think it is one of the sweetest holidays out there. So many rescue pups arrive without a known birthday or history, so August 1st exists to make sure every single one of them gets a day worth celebrating.

Whether your dog came home from a shelter, a rescue, or a foster family, their story started somewhere and now it includes you. That is worth a treat, a long walk, and maybe an extra scoop of peanut butter. 🐾

🌲🐾 There's nothing better than exploring the outdoors with your pup, but a little precaution goes a long way in keeping those adventures safe.

Before you head out, keep these tips in mind: stay on marked trails instead of cutting through brush, use a reliable tick prevention product, and avoid walking through tall grass, ticks tend to hide and wait there for a passing host. New Jersey's wooded areas are prime tick habitat, especially from spring through fall, so it's worth checking your pup (and yourself) for ticks after every hike.

A few small habits can make all the difference in keeping your outdoor adventures safe and fun for the whole pack!

Did you know that hot pavement can burn your pet's paw pads in just seconds?
Before heading out for a walk, try the 7-second hand test:

✋ Place the back of your hand on the pavement for 7 seconds.
🐾 If it's too hot for your hand, it's too hot for your pet's paws.
Help protect your furry friend this summer by:
🌅 Walking during the cooler morning or evening hours
🌳 Choosing grassy or shaded paths whenever possible
🥾 Using protective booties if your pet will be walking on hot surfaces
💧 Bringing fresh water to keep them hydrated along the way

Pool days are some of summer's best, but water play comes with risks. Keep these tips in mind so your pup stays safe by the water:

🐾 Never leave your pet unattended near the pool
🪜 Teach them where the steps are so they can get out
🦺 Use a life vest, even strong swimmers can tire
🚱 Keep fresh water nearby, so they're not tempted to drink chlorinated water
🚿 Rinse them off after a swim
👂 Dry their ears to prevent infection
