Just a friendly reminder that the heat index for this week is going to be very high. Heat advisories dont just apply to us but our fur kiddos as well. This week pets need to stay inside as much as possible, always have access to water, and a cool place to be. Dogs do not have sweat glands on their skin and cannot expel heat as easily as their human friends. All their heat is expelled through their paw pads and through panting. Walks should be kept to a minimum as the heat will be too high and the pavement will be too hot and may cause paw pads to burn.

Heat stroke is a very real concern among pets as they cannot disperse their heat as well as we can.

Initial SIGNS to watch for:
- very heavy panting
- unable to catch breath
- suddenly collaps or lethargy
- seeming confused or disoriented

What do if you suspect heat stroke:
- move your pet to a cool area
- call your vet immediately

What NOT to do:
- never put your pet in an ice bath if you suspect heat stroke as this can cause them to go into shock if their temperature changes too quickly

A friendly reminder that your Kingen Veterinary Staff is always here for you! If you have questions or concerns please always feel free to reach out!

We are EXCITED to announce that we will now be offering farm calls for large animal veterinary care through Crossroads Veterinary Services! Appointment availability and emergency care is limited for the time being as we continue to build our team, but we do currently have some appointments available in July. We anticipate offering full-service and emergency care by the end of the year. Call Franklin Animal Clinic (317) 736-9246 for any questions or to make an appointment.

Did you know February is National Pet Dental Health Month? Lucy came to see us earlier this month to get her teeth cleaned up. Dental health often impacts more than we realize like energy level, not to mention the smell! Lucy's owner said "She feels so much better, and no longer stinks!"

If you think your pet's teeth could use a cleaning or have questions, give us a call! Its important to keep teeth healthy!🦷🪥😁
