Horse Trainer operating out of Covered M Arena in Shawnee, Kansas. Danielle Saggars is an Ohio native who started with very humble beginnings.

As the only horseman in the family, Danielle learned at an early age how to be coachable and to take every opportunity to learn. She grew up with a strong 4-H foundation and worked her way to riding in the all around and Quarter Horse events. Danielle took every opportunity she could to work, learn, and be around horses including riding her bike down the road to clean stalls for an Arabian training facility. In high school, Danielle took advantage of the opportunity to transfer to online schooling in order to ride full time with her trainer, Judy Harrison. She worked 40 hours a week in the barn, learning, riding every horse she could sit on, and completed school work in the evenings when she returned home. Danielle purchased her first training horse in high school and used the tools she had acquired to start working with green horses to take them to the show pen. She was very active in 4-H and mentoring younger riders in her club, fostering her passion for teaching. Danielle would spend summers driving to each of their houses to give free lessons, guide families in proper care and nutrition of their animals, and training their horses. Danielle was recruited to ride on scholarship for South Dakota State University on a Division 1 NCAA Equestrian Team where she traveled and competed in both Horsemanship and Reining under the guidance of Megan (Rossiter) Johnson. Danielle completed an internship with Shane Brown Performance Horses in Elbert, Colorado to broaden her knowledge in reining and starting young horses. She completed a degree in Agricultural Science from South Dakota State University before moving to Kansas City in 2016. Upon arrival in Kansas City, Danielle worked for the American Royal Association as the Equine Event Manager where she oversaw all equine activities and shows during the fall season. Danielle resides in Kansas City with her wife, Paige, and is also the Barn Manager at Due West Ranch. She gives lessons specializing in all around, western, and beginner riders.

The basics aren’t just for the show pen. They’re for life.

One of our biggest priorities when developing young horses is teaching them the skills they’ll need long before they’re ever asked to perform under saddle.

Some of the things we work on with our babies include:

* Clipping
* Bathing
* Standing tied and in cross ties
* Loading and unloading from a trailer
* Backing, yielding, and moving away from pressure

These may seem like simple tasks, but they’re building blocks for a horse’s entire future.

Yes, these skills make horse shows easier, but they’re about so much more than the show pen.

They’re about standing quietly to be doctored, understanding pressure instead of panicking, and loading confidently when an emergency trip to the vet is necessary.

The middle of an emergency is not the time to discover what your horse doesn’t know.

We believe in starting young, building confidence, and creating a solid foundation through patience and consistency.

Don’t wait until you need these skills to teach them. Plan ahead, prepare your horses, and set them up for success!

Fall cleaning day at DSPH was a HUGE success!

We had an incredible group of people come together to tackle a long list of projects, and we accomplished more than I could have imagined! From power washing stalls and the arena, upgrading stalls and pens, knocking down cobwebs, deep cleaning, and tackling all those little projects that tend to get pushed to the bottom of the list, our barn got some much-needed TLC!

A special shoutout to Jim and Mary White, who went above and beyond by designing and building insulated water troughs to help us get through the winter months. Such a thoughtful and practical addition to our facility, and something we’ll appreciate all winter long!

As I get closer to my third trimester of pregnancy, I’m realizing more and more just how much I have to rely on the people around me. There are so many things I’m used to just doing myself, and having people show up, roll up their sleeves, and take some of that weight off my shoulders means more than I can put into words.

I’m incredibly grateful for the community we’ve built at DSPH. It’s one thing to have a barn full of clients, but it’s something entirely different to have a barn full of people who genuinely care about the horses, the facility, and each other.

Thank you to everyone who gave up part of their Sunday to help us. We couldn’t have accomplished nearly as much without you, and I’m so thankful to have this village behind us. ❤️

Apparently we’re supposed to stop laughing, being ridiculous, and having fun if we want to be taken seriously. 🤷‍♀️

But where’s the fun in that? 😂

We’ll be over here making questionable TikToks, laughing down the barn aisle, working our tails off, and chasing blue ribbons.

A little silly, a lot of hard work, and plenty of room for success AND fun.

Maybe the horse world could use a little more of that balance. After all, we’re all doing this because we love it, right?

Double the trouble, double the talent!

We’re excited to officially introduce two of the newest (and cutest) faces at DSPH! Congratulations to the Cohen Family on the purchase of these two outstanding weanlings. We have big dreams for these youngsters and can't wait to watch them develop into incredible all-around show horses.

It’s been a busy few months around DSPH, between horse shows, new purchases, and a few new faces arriving at the barn, we have some introductions to catch up on!

First up, a huge congratulations to Creed Haarhuis and the Haarhuis family on the purchase of Shot Gunnin, aka "Ox"!

We’re so excited to welcome Ox to the DSPH crew and can’t wait to see what this pair accomplishes together. Creed and Ox will be making their way into the ranch pen next season, and we think they’re going to be a pretty fun duo to watch!

A big thank you to Cass and Andie Fox of Cass Fox Reining Horses for making the sale process so easy and enjoyable. Cass and Andie have been longtime friends and supporters of DSPH, which makes adding Ox to our crew even more special. We’re always grateful to work with good horsemen and even better people.

One new horse introduced… but we’re not done yet. Stay tuned, there are a few more new faces to meet!

I’m excited to partner with Grass Roots to offer another opportunity for riders in our area to learn, improve, and feel more confident walking into the show pen.

Patterns aren’t just about getting from marker A to marker B, it’s about understanding what the judge is looking for, where points are gained or lost, and how to make every maneuver look intentional and polished.

Join me October 17th at Frick Park Arena in Oak Grove, MO for a hands-on clinic designed to help riders take their patterns from correct to competitive.

We’ll break down how patterns are judged, strategies for improving your overall performance, ways to increase your scores, and then put it all together with judged practice patterns and personalized feedback.

This clinic is open to youth and adult riders, whether you’re brand new to showing or looking for those little details that can take your performance to the next level.

There’s something pretty special about being the first. ✨

The first kids.
The first horses.
The first hoofprints through the doors of the brand-new American Royal.

For our show team, this was more than walking into a new arena. It was getting to be a small part of the beginning of something that will inspire generations of horsemen and women to come.

Even more special was watching our kids share their horses and their passion with everyone attending the event. They answered questions, introduced people to their horses, and represented our program and the equine industry with so much enthusiasm. We couldn’t have asked for better ambassadors for what we love to do.

Someday, thousands of kids and horses will walk through these doors chasing dreams of their own.

But for one night, the arena was quiet, the footing was untouched, and these kids got to imagine all the possibilities ahead.

A whole new world of pure imagination. 🤍

What an incredible honor for our team to help open the doors to the future of the American Royal.
