Along with so many that gave the ultimate sacrifice in the service of others on this dark day, we take time to remember our four legged friends who spent countless hours and days searching for the slightest signs of life in the days following the attacks.

Many of these dogs handlers reported significant depression in their pups after the incident due to their low success rate of finding live victims.

The last dog that served at ground zero passed away in 2016 at the age of 16.
