What can you do to help your pet(s) with fireworks?

🎆 bring them inside early, allowing early potty breaks. If a potty break is needed while fireworks are happening, make sure your pet is on a secure harness or double leash, and if able, securely fenced area with their primary person.
🎇 leave the tv or radio on to allow for continuous sound.
🎆 leave the lights on to make flashes less drastic, pull blinds if you have them.
🎇 stay calm yourself, as we know our pets can feed off our emotions and anxiety.

💕know that some pets may just need to hide or find their ‘nooks’; comfy kennels or under blankets/couches may offer them the security they seek. Talking to and letting them know you’re there is sometimes all we can do.

🚨Confirmed Case of Leptospirosis in Our Community

At Blue Mountain Animal Clinic, we have recently diagnosed another positive case of leptospirosis in a local dog. As our community continues to grow, we want to take a moment to share this reminder that leptospirosis is present in our area, and vaccinating remains one of the best ways to protect your pets.

What is Leptospirosis?

Leptospirosis is a bacterial disease that can affect both dogs and people. It is spread through the urine of wildlife. In our area, exposure can come from everyday surroundings where wildlife such as squirrels, chipmunks, deer, raccoons, opossums, rats, and mice may be present. Even dogs that stay close to home can be at risk. Leptospirosis can cause acute liver failure and other serious complications in dogs.

How is my dog exposed?

Leptospirosis bacteria are shed in the urine of infected animals. Dogs become infected when they encounter urine from infected wildlife or contaminated environments. This can happen during normal activities such as walking, wading, or playing outdoors, or by drinking from puddles, ponds, ditches, or other untreated water sources.

Symptoms to look for?

Vomiting, lethargy, bloody urine, and/or diarrhea ACCOMPANIED BY jaundice (yellowing of skin; belly and inner ears are most easily observed, mucous membranes; conjunctiva of eyes and gums, etc.)

The leptospirosis vaccine is highly effective at reducing your dog’s risk of serious illness, but staying up to date on booster vaccinations is essential to maintain protection.

If your pet is due for their leptospirosis vaccine or booster, or if you are unsure of their vaccine status, please feel free to reach out. We are always happy to talk through your pet’s records with you and help decide what makes the most sense for their lifestyle and risk.

Have you heard the news?! We are the proud new home of Dr. Oak! She has just recently joined our team and has begun seeing appointments this week. Dr. Oak has a background in emergency medicine prior to veterinary school and a huge interest in nutrition. She brings a wealth of knowledge to our team that we can't wait to share with our clients. UPDATE: We have found the owner of Teri and they will be reunited this evening. Thank you all for your shares and support!

FOUND CAT:
According to microchip registered to Idaho Humane Society her name is Teri and she is 16 yo. We currently do not have contact info for the owner. She was found on West Deytona St. in Sequim 6/26/26. She is being kept at our hospital while we try to find her owner - please call 360-207-4773
