🐾 Koda Update + Help Needed for Round Two 🐾

We’re thrilled to share that Koda has made it through his first hip revision surgery — and what a journey it’s been!

Thanks to your incredible support, the surgical team was able to perform a complex surgery to repair Koda’s left hip, unfortunately he had to endure the surgery twice due to the hip not settling correctly in the few days post-op. But now, he's home, healing, and taking longer walks each day. He’s eating well, sleeping better, and leaning into the love of his foster family — truly becoming part of their trio. 💙
But Koda’s journey isn’t over.

A second surgery is needed to repair the right hip and give more life to this big, charming guy. So, we are once again reaching out to our amazing community for donations to help fund Koda’s second hip surgery. Every dollar goes toward giving this brave boy the pain-free life he deserves.

📅 Surgery is expected to occur in late July/early August

💛 Please consider donating or sharing Koda’s story. He’s already come so far thanks to you — let’s get him across the finish line.

Thank you for standing by Koda. We’ll keep you posted as he continues healing and gets ready for round two! 🐕‍🦺💪

Don’t let the not so serious face fool you—Hades might look like a cattle dog, but he’s got the goofy, loving soul of a Malamute! 💙 He’s all about the snuggles, the sillies, and the scenic strolls.

🌿 Hades is a country boy at heart. He recently tried out apartment life, but city noise? No thanks! He’s much happier with birdsong over honking horns. A few short walks a day keep him happy, but he really lights up on a peaceful hike or chill car ride (windows cracked, ears flapping = bliss).

🎓 This smart cookie knows a ton of commands! Classics like “sit” and “stay”, cuddly ones like “hug” and “kiss”, and even fun party tricks like “dance” and “go through” (yes, he’ll do a little tunnel dash between your legs). His vocabulary is almost as impressive as his cuddles.

🐶 Hades gets along well with other large dogs and might be cool with a dog sibling, but he’d also be thrilled to soak up all the love as your one-and-only. He’s got some puppy zest left in him and a heart full of love to give.

🛏️ Bonus: He’s a pro cuddler and would love nothing more than to share your bed and be your #1 sidekick in a quiet, cozy home.

📍Currently being spoiled by his amazing foster fam—but what he really wants is YOU. Let’s get this gentle, joyful boy the forever home he deserves. 💫

Available for adoption in WA & OR

🐾COURTESY LISTING🐾

Meet Rocky!

Rocky is a 6 year old, 80-pound Malamute Mix who is ready for his forever home! He is neutered and fully vetted. Rocky is a sweet boy who is eager to please! He enjoys training and knows some commands, including "sit" and "down." He is full of energy, loves to play, yet is also affectionate and loves snuggle time.

He is very exuberant and loves to meet people. Rocky needs an experienced dog owner; someone with knowledge of the Malamute or Husky breed would be beneficial. He would love a family that is very active so he can go on runs, hikes and more.

Rocky has lived in two different homes with other dogs. While he gets along with most dogs, he has been competitive with another "alpha" male in one of the homes which has led to few scuffles. He would likely to well with another dog of similar size that does not insist on being the "alpha." He can be too much for small dogs, as Rocky doesn’t always seem to be aware of his size. Rocky would be fine in a home where he is the only dog but still able to have socialization with other dogs. He may do well with one other dog in the home who is compatible energy-wise and will tolerate his playfulness.

We prefer a home without small children only because they could accidentally be knocked over. We are insisting on a home with no cats, as we have not observed him around kitties. A yard and a strong, very tall fence are an absolute must for this boy.

Overall, Rocky's foster parents have described him as very sweet and affectionate!

Location: Tacoma, WA

Hawk, or Hawky Boy, as we call him, is 3 months old. He was the first to get up on the couch by himself and is the most rambunctious of the bunch. Hawk has a spunky personality and will play stomp and share love growls with his humans when he wants to play. He’s gentle with his puppy nibbles and shares a puppy bark to get the whole crew howling. Hawk is the leader of the puppy pack and everyone just loves him!

Hawk is in process of being trained with basic commands and potty training. His weight was 18 lbs as of June 1st and he will grow a few pounds a week.

Currently he is in a foster home with other dogs, but is seeking his furever family!

Available for adoption in WA & OR

🐾 COURTESY LISTING 🐾

Atlas Fluffelupagus (responds to Atlas and GusGus) came to our home in July 2024 from what we suspect were some poor conditions. He arrived matted, dirty, scared and with a leash attached. After more than 14 hours gaining his trust he became ours (after a stray hold) and he has been a loving part of our family ever since.

When Atlas entered our home he truly had to learn "how to be a dog". Our resident cattle dog mix has taught him everything he needed to know and he has come out of his shell to become such a loving, happy and goofy boy.

Atlas is an expert at dog-to-dog communication and happily took the submissive role to our resident dog. He would be best suited in a home either alone or to join a resident dog. He has been such a valued member of our large crew for the last year and still has so much love to give to a new family.

Atlas happily sleeps in his kennel throughout the night, he is potty trained and loves kisses and belly rubs more than anything. True to his breed he has learned to open doors including kennel, cabinets and fridge doors for some extra treats but we have managed easily with child locks and some extra security.

As our life and family situation has changed we are unable to spend enough time with Atlas anymore, it is a heartbreaking decision but we want Atlas to have the most beautiful life and hope another family can provide that for him.

He needs someone who is home more than they are gone, can be patient for a couple of weeks while Atlas adjusts, doesn’t mind keeping a child lock on the fridge to protect their eggs and snacks, has an escape-resistant yard, and no cats.

He is worth the effort, and will give you so much love, laughter, and loyalty in exchange for your time.

🐾COURTESY LISTING🐾

Naili is a 4 year old, 82 lb Malamute, Border Collie and Great Pyrenees mix with a great temperament. She loves people, adores kids, and has a lot of experience with toddlers and babies.

She is very affectionate and snuggly. She loves going on hikes, loves playing fetch, and loves running in the woods or through long grass.

Naili is thoroughly obedience trained, perfectly house trained. No counter surfing, no chewing. She's an indoor dog who loves the outdoors. She's great off-leash and is E-collar trained. Highly food motivated. She loves playing with other dogs for short durations and would live well with another dog with some patient introduction.

An ideal furever home for Naili would be full of adventures, cuddles and treats!

Our story

WAMAL is a 100% volunteer run non-profit which serves Washington and Oregon. Our volunteers come from all walks of life and locations. In 2019, through an extremely generous donation from one of our supporters, we were able to open up our own small shelter where we are currently able to take in up to 8 rescues dogs. We use commercial kennels and foster homes for additional pups. The average number of dogs we have at any time ranges from 20-30, of all ages but rarely under 8 months old. Our adoption process involves an application followed by a home visit where we discuss the adoption process, answer questions and make sure applicants can provide a safe, loving and pet involved home for our rescues!

It takes a tremendous amount of volunteering to make WAMAL rescue possible and we open our homes and hearts to Malamutes in need. We are always looking for others who would like to help, in whatever form or amount of time people can donate. This organization is only able to do what we do because of this generous and dedicated team of volunteers - they truly make it possible to save the lives of this gentle and loving working breed. If you would like to join us please email us at [email protected]. The pride (and pain) of our lives are our beloved Mals!

The first step for meeting/adopting a WAMAL Malamute is to complete the required adoption application at: http://www.wamal.com/adoptform.pl Once WAMAL receives the application the adoption process begins with scheduling a home visit.

If you are interested in fostering a rescue Malamute please visit our website at www.wamal.com and complete the Foster Home Application.
