Dating all the way back to ancient Egypt, where cats were worshiped like gods, they were seen as not only deities, but protectors against scorpions, snakes and even evil.

Since then, cats have made their way up the social ladder, used by the Greeks and Romans for pest control and becoming important members of society.

That is, until the Black Death in 1348. Many believed that cats contributed to the spread of disease. Millions of cats were slain by the superstitious. It was not until way later in the 1600s that the feline reputations started to recover.

Founded in 1958, the cat welfare charity, International Cat Care aims to correct the stigma surrounding cats. They have challenged cruelty, ignorance, and misunderstanding to affect positive change in the lives of cats. With an estimated population of 600 million cats, half of which are believed to be strays, it is estimated that they improve the lives of 25 million cats every year.

Snakes are seriously misunderstood creatures if you ask me.

So today, I'd like to challenge the negative perceptions and help promote awareness about the vital role these wiggle noodles play in our ecosystem.

Did you know?

🐍Snakes smell with their tongue? They flick their forked tongues to collect scent particles and then transfer them to a special sensory organ in their mouth called the Jacobson's organ.

🐍While most snakes are oviparous (lay eggs), some species, particularly those in colder climates, give birth to live young (viviparous).

🐍Snakes don't have external ears, but they can hear by detecting vibrations through their jawbones, which transmit sound to their inner ear.

I know they can be scary but snakes are not typically aggressive, rather they are defensive, as most animals are.

By learning to understand them, you can help reduce the fear and maybe even learn to love them!
