Planning a summer getaway with your pet? If you'll be traveling to an area where ticks are common—especially wooded, grassy, or hiking destinations—make sure your pet is up to date on tick prevention before you go.

Ticks can transmit diseases that affect both pets and people, so prevention is key. While you're away:

- Check your pet for ticks after spending time outdoors.
- Remove any ticks promptly and properly.
- Watch for signs of illness after a tick bite.

If you're planning to travel with your pet and have questions about tick prevention, or if your pet becomes ill after a tick bite, contact Gateway Animal Hospital at (727) 577-6500. Our team is here to help.

Hello there Gateway Family!

🐾 Meet Cookie 🍪

Cookie is:
~ Male, Neutered, approximately 4-5 years old
~ Black Mouth Cur Mix
~ About 80 lbs
~ Up to date on all his vaccines

Cookie came to us a little while ago and has been rehabilitated by our awesome medical team! His hypothyroidism and food allergies are now under control with the right diet and medication. He would need to stay on both of those in his new home to remain well. 💝
If you're looking for a sweet loving pup to care for, he's a wonderful fit.

Cookie loves to play! He's dog friendly and does well with all sizes at doggy daycare. He's leash trained and has manners (he knows standard commands). We feel he would be an amazing addition to someone's home and family! 🏡

If you or anyone you may know would like to grace this gentle giant with a second chapter of his life, please message us or give us a call at (727) 577 - 6500. Thank you!

Pool days and beach trips can be a blast, but not every pet is a natural swimmer!

If your pet joins you around the water:
- Always supervise them closely.
- Consider a properly fitted life jacket for boating or swimming.
- Rinse off chlorine or saltwater after swimming.
- Provide fresh drinking water so they aren't tempted to drink from pools, lakes, or the ocean.

With a few simple precautions, you and your pet can enjoy a fun and safe summer by the water. If you have questions about water safety or your pet's summer health, contact Gateway Animal Hospital at (727) 577-6500. We're always happy to help!

A microchip is one of the simplest ways to help protect your pet if they ever become lost.

Unlike collars and tags, a microchip provides permanent identification that can't fall off or be removed. If your pet is found, a quick scan can help reunite them with your family.

June is National Microchipping Month, making it the perfect time to ensure your pet has this important layer of protection. If your pet is already microchipped, don't forget to verify that your contact information is current and accurate.

Questions about microchipping your pet? Give us a call at (727) 577-6500.

Summer heat can become dangerous for pets very quickly. Never leave your pet unattended in a vehicle, even for a few minutes, and remember that hot pavement can burn sensitive paw pads.

On warm days, stick to early morning or evening walks, provide plenty of fresh water, and make sure pets always have access to shade and cool indoor spaces.

If your pet is panting excessively, drooling, lethargic, or struggling in the heat, contact a veterinarian right away.
