Cassie previously went through training with another trainer but needed a bit of a tune up and help working through some new behaviors. She has become possessive of items that would drop on the floor and lash out at her male owner when he would try to get it from her. She has also developed fear an anxiety towards new things or people, making it difficult to take her outside or interact with visitors to the home. During training we worked heavily on confidence building, refreshing the skills she had already learned, and working through resource guarding. Now Cassie and her family are able to enjoy new adventures and pick things off the ground worry free.

Miss Pippa is a highly energetic puppy who need a bit of help with manners and impulse control. Her foster mom reached out because she was was having a difficult time handling her excessive mouthing and jumping behaviors. During training we focusing heavily on giving her an outlet for all her energy and establishing her foundational obedience. RSK9 Armani

Juni’s owners reached out because they needed some help with recall and impulse control. Prior to training Juno would take off and run from her owners thinking that they were playing some sort of game. She was also struggling on leash and would obsessively bite the leash while gator rolling. During training Armani focused heavily on outdoor activities, building neutrality and engagement, and the reliability of her obedience commands. Now Juni and her family are able to resume their daily hikes worry free. Welcome to the Ridgeside family!

Don’t Blink ! They grow up fast, the most crucial time in puppies lives are weeks 6-14. At this age they are like sponges 🧽 soaking up everything around them. It’s important for us to lay the foundation early on by making wanted behaviors fun.

Here we are working on a few things, first engagement 👀. We love teaching eye contact and will reward it anytime we lock eyes.

We also are working on the “yes” command which allows the dog freedom to go chase and search for her food, a release, satisfying those deep internal needs to hunt and use her nose.

Lastly and most importantly “recall” coming back when called! We all have struggled when it comes to our puppies and them coming back to us. It seems like a switch has been flipped and suddenly the shadow you always had behind you starts to venture out and explore. Here we are simply saying her name and then rewarding with her food once she returns to us.

Cold weather can pose risks to dogs, but with proper care, they can stay safe and comfortable. Here are key considerations for dog owners during cold weather:

General Safety Tips
• Know Your Dog’s Tolerance: Small, short-haired, elderly, and young dogs are more sensitive to cold. Breeds like Huskies and Malamutes tolerate cold better than short-haired breeds like Chihuahuas.
• Limit Outdoor Time: Avoid prolonged exposure to extreme cold, especially for short-haired or small breeds.
• Provide Shelter: If your dog spends time outside, ensure they have a dry, insulated shelter protected from wind and snow.
• Use Protective Gear: Dog coats and sweaters can provide extra warmth, and booties help protect paws from ice, salt, and cold surfaces.

Paw & Skin Protection
• Wipe Paws After Walks: Ice, salt, and chemical de-icers can irritate paw pads. Wipe them down after each walk.
• Trim Fur Around Paws: Prevents ice buildup between the toes.
• Use Paw Balm: Helps protect against cracking from cold weather and salted roads.
