Happy New Year and a HUGE Thank You to all of my customers who made this year my best and busiest season yet! We had a great variety of mounts, the best customers who weren’t shy about sending referrals our way.
I invested in a lot of educational opportunities and grew exponentially in so many areas this year. Cheers to everyone who played a part! Happy New Year!

DEER HIDE PROTECTION FOR A SHOULDER MOUNT, AS MEAT PROCESSORS GET BACKLOGGED:

If you get a deer and you want to mount it, it needs to be skinned off the deer as soon as possible, placed directly in a freezer, or in a very cold cooler at your butcher for not more then two days - then either placed in a freezer or brought right in to me. Last year towards end of season I had a few capes come in that spent too long before being frozen and you risk having hair slip from your hide causing bald spots in tanning. I personally put a bacteria stopper solution on capes when I receive them that are at risk, but slippage still happens, and you won’t know it until your cape comes back from tanning. Knowledge is key.

Butchers are meat cutters not taxidermists. They work extremely hard and long hours this time of year. It is not the butchers responsibility to know how to handle your deer for taxidermy. Some have freezer space and some dont. Some get so busy and forget your deer cape didn’t make it into a freezer. It’s up to you if you want to have your deer mounted to make sure it gets handled correctly.

If you want a great mount, a lot of it starts the moment the deer is killed. Drag it out with a sled (so you don’t break hair on the hide). Get it skinned and to me asap, if not… freeze it and bring it at your convenience. I WILL SEND YOU A VIDEO ON HOW TO CAPE IT YOURSELF, ITS NOT HARD. Call me if you have any questions.

Couple bucks that went home this week. Thank you Ken H. And Michael T. for your business! It’s been a busy couple weeks with intakes of deer, hope to get back mounting soon. I’m over two months ahead of schedule on last years deer, they are almost done.

Just a 2024 Hunting Season refresher, tips to save you money and time:
If you plan to get a whitetail shoulder mount please check with your processor to see if they tube the deer cape for a shoulder mount, instead of cut the deer all the way down the back (known as a dorsal cut). It takes an extra couple hours of sewing and prep work for a long dorsal cut - not to mention it’s hard to stretch a cape back to its original size after tanning when it’s NOT a tubed cape (and everyone wants to get back a nice big buck for their wall)….plus your deer has stitching all the way down its back. I can send you a video to show you how to easily tube cape your deer yourself as well. I do take in dorsal cut capes but I typically charge $45 due to so much extra time it takes to sew.
I take cash, cards and Venmo. If paying with a card I charge an extra 3% fee to cover processing fees. 50% deposit required at drop off. Please call for pricing.
I appreciate your business very much and will always strive to give you a top quality mount, best of luck to you! 🦌
